They all started walking towards the kitchen. Once they arrived, they met Elora. Everyone had different tasks to do. "Sam and Bae, please peel the boiled potatoes for me," the Chef instructed. They both nodded in agreement. The potatoes were still in the water, so Bae decided to drain them. Just as she was about to pour out the water, Sam appeared suddenly, causing her to spill the hot water on him. "What the fuck, Bae?" he shouted, clutching his scalded arm."It's not my fault you came in my way," Bae retorted, eyes flashing with defiance. Sam was dumbfounded, unable to muster a response. They both stormed off and didn't speak during dinner.Dinner that night was awkwardly silent, with tension thick in the air. Afterward, they all retreated to their rooms. Almost everyone went to sleep immediately."Psst, hey brother," Lily called out to her brother, who was staring at the ceiling."What?" he whispered back."I heard you shout earlier. Are you okay?" Lily questioned."Yeah, that dumb bitch spilled hot water on me and didn't bother to apologize," he replied, his voice bitter."I'm sorry, okay? No need to call me a dumb bitch," a voice interrupted from the darkness."Do you think I'll accept your disingenuous apology, Bae?" Sam snapped."Brother, chill. She apologized at least," Lily interjected."Do you think this is the first time? Remember at school? The water balloon?" Sam added, his anger not abating."I was just trying to have some fun, unlike someone," Bae argued back."Can you all please shut your mouths? We're all trying to sleep," Asher groaned from his bed. Everyone fell silent after that. For two days, the awkwardness and silence continued. Everything seemed normal, like a regular camp, until the third night. It was around 2 a.m. when Bae woke up, thirsty. The water dispenser in the room was empty, so she decided to sneak out to find water, despite not being allowed to roam around and being unfamiliar with the place. She crept down the big corridor towards the kitchen. "Ugh, why is this door not opening?" she muttered, frustrated when the kitchen door wouldn't budge.Desperate for water, she ventured up to the second floor, which was strictly off-limits. There, she found a water source and quenched her thirst. On her way back, she noticed light coming from a room and, driven by curiosity, decided to peek inside. She sneezed, too loudly."Who's there?" someone shouted from inside. Bae panicked, frozen in place as footsteps approached.Suddenly, she was yanked into a nearby supply closet. "What the—" Bae started but was silenced by a hand over her mouth."Shhh," came a familiar voice."Sam? What the hell are you—" she began again but was cut off as they heard a man speaking."There's no one here, Director," he said."I think this is enough to gain their trust. Let's start with the plan now," a woman replied. They immediately recognized her voice. It was Mrs. Campbell. They listened carefully, hearts pounding."Let's mix the first dose of drugs in tomorrow's breakfast and make sure everyone eats it. Also, cancel the cooking duties from now on," Zion said.Their eyes widened in shock. As people started leaving the room, Sam and Bae stayed silent in the cramped closet. Once the coast was clear, Sam checked outside, and they hurried back to their rooms, breathing heavily."You know, you can let go of my hand now," Bae remarked, glancing at their joined hands."Oh, yeah—sorry," Sam mumbled, letting go."What the hell was that?" Sam said, bewildered."This place was creepy from the start. I knew something was wrong. Like, what camp keeps campers like prisoners?" Bae responded. "What should we do now?" she asked Sam."Let's go to sleep and discuss it tomorrow."The next morning, everyone woke up. Sam and Bae waited for Elora to leave since she was a camp instructor. Lily was about to walk out of the room, but Bae stopped her."Guys, I know we don't talk much, but I need to tell you all something important," Bae said, gathering everyone's attention. She recounted everything she and Sam had heard."Whoa," Asher commented, eyes wide."Wait, you said it was 2 a.m. and you were half asleep, right?" Hayden questioned skeptically."Yeah, but I'm sure of what I heard," Bae reassured them.Hayden remained unconvinced, and the others seemed doubtful as well. "Lady, you must have heard something wrong. Everything is fine here," Hayden insisted."No, I'm telling the truth. If you don't believe me, you could probably die," Bae said, shrugging."I was there too, and I can tell you she's not lying," Sam confirmed."How can we believe you're not just siding with Bae? Were you really there?" Haven questioned, her suspicion clear."Haven, you're supposed to side with me!" Bae exclaimed, frustrated."Do you think I would side with this bitch for no reason?" Sam retorted, making Bae scoff and mouth "Fuck you.""Okay, I believe my brother wouldn't side with her without a reason," Lily said, breaking the tension."If you still don't believe us, remember that our kitchen duty will get canceled today. If not, then don't believe us!" Bae challenged."Yes, your duty is canceled," a voice announced, startling them."Oh shit," Haven murmured, eyes wide."Oh, Elora, weren't you on duty outside today?" Asher asked nervously."Yes, but I came to inform you guys that your duty is canceled. Seems like you're having a meeting here, huh?" She raised an eyebrow, then laughed. "Don't be nervous. I know about everything. I heard it yesterday too. I knew something was fishy because they were offering so much money for a camp instructor.""For now, I'll take care of the breakfast part since I'm supposed to make sure you eat it. I'll just lie about it," she said, signaling them to follow her to the dining hall."Oh, wait," she suddenly stopped them. "Sam and Bae, you're aware there are CCTV cameras here, right?" Sam's eyes widened. Bae looked indifferent."Luckily, I'm staff, and there were no cameras on the second floor. I deleted the footage of you two," Elora said, and Sam sighed in relief. "Also, I saw you two running together, hand in hand," she teased, making them blush. All of them then went to have breakfast.***A/NLong chapter this time. Now I gotta go study.
