Grace

As I entered the school, the first thing I saw was Cassy and her group of friends talking. I had the intention of ignoring them but when I heard Marianna's name being mentioned, I slowed my steps to listen out of curiosity.

"I heard she's like royalty in France," some girl said adding to the conversation. Royalty? I mean I wouldn't be too surprised by the way she walked into the school yesterday with her parents in front of her like they owned the place. She did look like royalty but why would she come to this school? As far as I'm concerned, this school doesn't have the best education in Montreal.

"The fuck are you listening to pigtail?" Someone behind me confronted me. Before I could check to see who it was, I was roughly pushed to the ground hitting my head. I groaned and looked back to see Cassy staring down at me while smiling.

"Bitch." She then walked away with her pack of minions following her. I sighed and made a move to get up but stopped when I saw a well-manicured hand in front of my face. I looked up and saw none other than Marianna Lavigne. Why does she want to help me? Why doesn't she act like everyone else yet?

"Come on now, don't leave me hanging," she said with a thick French accent. I looked at her hand then back up to her blue eyes and finally got up by myself. She awkwardly retracted her hand and stood there watching me closely while I arranged my clothes.

I made a move to walk away without saying anything to her but she stopped me by grabbing my arm. I looked at her questioning.

"I'm Marianna by the way," she said.

"I know, we have French together," I replied with a bored tone.

"Right." She smiled awkwardly but wouldn't let go of my arm. If her intentions were to become friends with me I wouldn't allow it. I know that sooner or later she'll figure out my place in this school and everyone would fill her head up with stupid false rumors about me. It's better not to start any friendships now than to get hurt later.

"If you don't mind," I said signaling at her hand wrapped around my arm.

"Oh yeah, sorry," she apologized while quickly dropping my arm. I didn't waste any time to create distance between us and quickly left the scene. I could spot some people watching the situation unfold next to us. I wonder what they were thinking. I hope any false rumors about this encounter don't surf among the students.

I strolled into my math class. Yesterday I didn't have any math course so today is the first lesson of the year. Math is my strongest class. I understand it so easily that I even surprise myself sometimes. I just don't understand how people don't find it easy. It's like talking but with numbers.

As I settled into my usual seat, I noticed that the tables were by two. That meant that I would have to sit next to someone. Great. It's like the teachers force themselves to give me a harder time at school. Since when do we even team up in math class anyway? It's usually in science class that it occurs.

The classroom slowly started to fill up. Kids were dropping their bags to reserve their seats then walked out of the class to hang with their friends before the bell. Without anything to do, I grabbed my book from my bag and started reading. I started reading the book After a few days ago. I've seen the movie but I didn't think it was enough so I bought the book in hopes of being satisfied. So far it isn't that bad.

As I was turning the page, I felt someone take a seat next to me. I didn't think it would be a person who would cause me any problem because they wouldn't have sat next to me. They would've maybe sat around me but not directly next to me.

Without wanting to bring unnecessary attention to me, I didn't make any move to see who it was. That was before the person began talking to me.

"Hey," a feminine voice said next to me. I slowly turned my head to find Marianna sitting next to me and smiling lightly. Great, we have another class together. Not only that, she decided to sit next to me. Is she doing this on purpose?
