Thrown like a star in my vast sleep

I open my eyes to take a peep

To find that I was by the sea

Me gazing with tranquillity

It was then when the Hurdy Gurdy Man

Came singing songs of love

As always I let the music play and got out of the bed. Just another normal day. Or so I thought. First I would get my breakfast, then visit my patients, if needed I would join Fury in an interrogation or a mission. Maybe he would call me to assist in a meeting. Then, after lunch, I would sit in my little living room, rehearing my recorded sessions and taking notes, then I would archive them and make sure everything was in place. I hated chaos. Then, if I still had time before the dinner, I would use it to read a book. I just lately happened to be near a bookstore and had bought the newest books about psychology or a book written by a specialist in that area. Yeah, Im one of the people who likes this kind of books. They sometimes provided help. Then I would go to dinner and then sleep. Just like every other day. And I loved it. I loved the steady routine, knowing what would come next, what I was expected to do. It gave me a feeling of security. I put on my catsuit, slipped into my shoes, and brushed my hair out. I couldnt find a hair tie, so I decided to let my hair fall out open. It had grown and was now reaching my waist. I didn't mind it that long. I went over to my jewellery casket and opened it. I decided to take two simple silvern earrings, which were hanging down my ears, a tiny golden pearl hanging at the end of the thin silvern chain. I went to get breakfast. But apparently, I was the only one who had thought of this. The hall was empty. There was nobody around. Then I heard something over the intercom. The signal and connection was very bad. I didn't linger long. If the connection was being disturbed, this was an emergency. I left my tray on the table and ran towards the head bridge. Running, I tried to connect to someone else over intercom. "Lovecraft here, anyone copy?" Nothing. Shit. "Lovecraft, your location?", I heard Furys voice rustling in my ear. Thank god. I nearly smiled. "Heading for the bridge, Sir." "Meet me there." I speeded up and nearly crashed into a wall when I took a turn left. And then I busted into the hall of the bridge. Fury turned around to face me. "Hey.", he was completely calm. I stared at him. "Hey...Sir. What the heck is going on?" He smirked. "We needed to fix the intercom. Thats all." I huffed. "I nearly had a heart attack thinking there was some emergency." He raised his eyebrows. "Ah, yes, there actually is one." I was about to slap him. Without noticing my frustrated state, he continues to speak. "You remember the incident with the Tesseract yesterday evening?" I nodded. "Well this whole thing turns out to be way bigger than we expected. This Loki guy has stolen some of our best agents from right under my nose, not to mention the Tesseract itself." I nodded. "Where is he now?" Fury smiled a little stressed. "You see, that's the problem." "You dont know?", I asked. He just nodded. "He vanished completely, with our agents and the stone. We had to secure the intercom again to prevent the agents listening to every move of ours. We need to find them, and we need to do it quickly. I've already called them in." My eyes snap wide open. Them. He was talking about the people from the Avengers initiative. "Yes, Sir, what can I do?" He eyed me up and down. "In case youre referring to that. You don't need to go out on the field. If we capture Loki, I want you to be responsible for him. Interrogate him. I doubt he will talk. Thats why I need you. Whenever we can get a hand on him, you're up. Everything we have on Loki, the Tesseract and the missing agents is already on your table. Stay ready." I nodded and just was about to leave the room when Fury called something after me, and I turned around again. "Lovecraft, this one is hard. And complicated. And probably insane. If you want to stand this one out, Im totally fine with it." I smiled. Sometimes Fury behaved like a worried dad. "It'll be alright.", I told him. "If you say so. You can call out anytime. And dont let him get inside your head." I raised an eyebrow. "I'll make sure of that. After all, it is me who wants to get into peoples heads." I heard him chuckle and left the bridge. I went back into my rooms. Fury had made it kind of clear that I was dismissed of my usual duties to be ready at any time. If they should catch Mr. Crazy. I let myself fall down on my sofa. On the coffee table were laying some files. I just quickly read through the names. I knew these agents. Of course I knew them. I put their files away. I was tempted to grab this Lokis file but then I put it away. I never read peoples filed before I actually meet them. Never. But the file about the Tesseract was rather intriguing. I grabbed it and began to read. I left my intercom on, so I could be called any time instantly. From what I understood this Tesseract was acting as a doorway between dimensions or was it rather space? This was a scientific area I knew barely anything about. I dug deeper into their research on power spikes and so on. I had already skipped lunch reading this whole stuff. It must have been about 4 pm when I jumped up, an idea suddenly coming to my mind. I pressed my intercom. "Fury?" Instantly he answered me. "Lovecraft?" "I have an idea, regarding Loki." "Yeah?" I grinned. "Look, Im not an expert but from what I can see Loki probably is going to use the Tesseract as a portal." "No shit.", Fury said. "Listen Lovecraft, this is what we already know so unless you have something else Ive got something else" "To stabilize the portal he needs something. An extremely rare mineral. Iridium. And he'll need more than just a bit of it." "So?", Fury was getting slightly annoyed. "Well...where are such large amounts of Iridium at once? There cant be so many locations with just a bit of Iridium. It should be pretty easy to figure out who has the amount of Iridium Loki needs." There was silence on the other end. "Lovecraft? Youre a genius!", he finally screamed into his intercom. I smiled. "Every time, Sir." I could hear him starting to shout commands out before the intercom went silent again. I smiled to myself. Sometimes the easiest solutions were the hardest to find if you were desperately trying to find them. I closed the file and went into the cafeteria to get myself some early dinner. Then I decided to take a can with coffee and some snacks with me. I would stay up the night, in case I would be needed. I turned on the little television in my living room and got myself a blanket. I decide to watch the Illusionist and make myself comfortable.

It is around midnight and I've just finished Let me In and now search for another film to watch when my intercom buzzes. "Lovecraft? They've got him. They'll be arriving in 10. Be ready." "Yes, Sir!", I answer and get out of my blanket. I go into the bathroom and freshen up a bit, then I brush my tangled hair out again and check my appearance. Not too bad, right? No, I look rather well for staying up so long, no eyebags, nothing. Good. Wanna make a good first impression on Cap. And idol. Sort of. Stark and Romanoff I know already. I nervously fiddle with my necklace. I hope this goes well. He is dangerous, I know that. I breathe out. Not your first dangerous and slightly psychotic case, Davina, youll be alright. "As right now you are by far the best psychologist Ive ever met.", I hear in my head. I smile at my reflection. There he is again. In my head. "And the only one.", I whisper to myself, remembering one of our last conversations. I'll be alright. He'll be there for me. Even if he isn't. Feeling better, I went out of my room and down the hallway. I halfway crash into Hill on the way. "Furys waiting for you down in the 3rd." I nod and quickly make my way over the group of five people. Fury and Romanoff, Stark and who I assume is Captain America. But theres another guy. Dressed in...what the heck? A medieval looking fantasy armour with a red cape. Am I missing a costume party? Fury notices me. "Ah, Lovecraft, just on time." Romanoff greets me with a nod. I nod back. "Hi, Stark." He smiled widely at me. "Well, if it isnt that charming counsellor of yours. I told you already twice to call me Tony, just Tony." I smirk at him. Womanizer. Then I extend my hand to Mr. Rogers who shakes it. "This is my mental counsellor and sort of second right hand, Agent Lovecraft." Mr. Rogers nods. "Pleasure to meet you." I smile up at him. "You too, Captain." "Oh, and Lovecraft, this is Thor, apparently the brother of our...guest.", Fury introduces us further. I smile at the giant blonde man and extend my hand, expecting him to shake it. He takes it surprisingly gentle and places a kiss on the back of my hand. I flush a bit, not expecting such an old fashioned greeting. He smiles at me. Romanoff pats me on the back. "No worries, Thor, Davy is the best." Thor frowned slightly. "Davy?" "Davina. Davina Lovecraft.", I explain. For a moment sorrow flashes up in his eyes. But as quick as it appeared its gone. "Is something the matter?", I ask. He smiles a sad smile. "No, Lady Lovecraft, nothing is wrong. Your name just reminds me of...better times." I nod, not going to press that matter further. "Lovecraft, I'm afraid that you cant see your new patient yet." I tun around to Fury. "Why, Sir, is that?" "We're not sure if the cage can contain all his magical abilities and even with the restraining bracelets, he could be able to work magic outside his containment. To speak frankly, we can't risk it. You can talk to him but only from outside." He looks at me. Outside the containment room. I nod, a bit disappointed. But I know the reasons are valid. Better safe than sorry. I go into the hallway before the containment room. Then I use my phone to connect my intercom with the speakers in the room on the other side of the double security door. I also encrypt the connection. All my sessions are private. All of them. I am the only one who listens. And I intend to keep it this way. I take a deep breath and then, I speak into my little mic.
