"Did you just SHOOT at me?!" The woman dressed in a medical outfit screamed in amazement.
"S-sorry ma'am, I thought you were one of those things," Amanda responded, apologizing a ton. I noticed the smoking bullet hole to the right of the door. Good thing she missed.
"You better be," she responded, walking inside. "Before I was RUDELY shot at, I came here because I heard that horribly loud beeping noise."
"Oh my gosh, Amara?!" Kye said excitedly.
"Kye?!" Amara and Kye met up, and gave each other a high-five. "I thought they transferred you to Site-41!"
"You two know each other?" I asked, confused.
"Yeah! Whenever they accepted Kye into the force, he recommended me, too!" Amara said happily. We all just looked at one another and shrugged.
"What a small world, huh? How did I not know you were here!" Kye asked, stepping back, still smiling happily.
"Sorry to burst ya' bubble, but can we get out of here and THEN continue the reunion?" D-86420 said.
"Please," Ava agreed.
"Alright, alright," Amara said, and we all walked back to the checkpoint.
We reached the checkpoint, where the screen no longer said 'checkpoint lockdown.' Lucky us! "Alright, try your card," I insisted.
"Okay, let's see..." Kye entered his keycard into the slot, and the doors opened. The area on the other side had white walls and a marble floor. Instead of a blue line, an orange line ran along the walls.
"Alright!"
"Yeaahhhh!"
"Finally."
"Yes! Let's get going!" I cheered, skipping to the next door.
"Alright! So, it's just a straight stretch home now, right?" I said, looking over at Kye while pressing the button.
"Yep, straight hom-" Kye froze, and had an awful look on his face. I looked down the hallway, and saw a plague doctor, standing in the middle of the hallway, looking back at us.
"That's our way out..." Amanda mumbled, sighing to herself.
"Good evening." The thing spoke.
"I didn't know they were intelligent," D-86420 whispered.
"Do you all know of the pestilence? It has quite a strong presence here," it said.
"No, I haven't heard of it. Sorry. Mind if we get by?" I asked calmly as we all inched forward towards the door.
"I sense the pestilence among you..." it said as we managed to walk by it.
"No, no. Isn't us!" Ava said while I was still sneaking by. By then, Kye, Amanda, and D-86420 had run out of the room. I was staring at the plague doctor while backing away slowly and tripped on a potted plant that had been overturned.
"You," the thing said, holding out its hand and moving towards me. My heart began to pound, and I began to crawl back as fast as possible, which wasn't very fast. The thing began gaining on me, and I tried to get up, only to fall again. Curse being off balance. It was right next to me, and I knew I had nowhere to go, so I just clenched up and closed my eyes, expecting the worst. My life was over. I would never get to say goodbye to all my friends. I would never get to-
"JOHN, GO!" Ava yelled at me, and I saw she had tackled the thing.
"AVA! IT'S GOING TO GET YOU!" I yelled back, getting back up, on balance this time.
