Daniel was tired of Johnny's constant harassment. Yet for some reason, at the same time, he was helplessly attracted to him. He always had to push his feelings down, which wasn't hard with the beatings he kept receiving. He was having trouble thinking of ways to approach Johnny- you see, even with his current training, he couldn't fight off Johnny. He was too strong. Too muscular.. Too attractive.
He needed air. After pulling on his sneakers, he slipped out his window, leaving it open a few inches. His feet touched the group, and he turned. He quickly walked in the direction he always went when he snuck out- the park next to the gas station.
Johnny was tossing and turning. He couldn't seem to fall asleep. His heater was broken, so it was chilly in the house. It was falling apart, his mom was on a weeklong getaway with Sid, so it was up to him to keep the house up. He did a poor job, as he was only a teenager. He pulled on his blue sweatshirt, deciding to take a walk, and pick up a late night snack from the gas station.
Locking the door as he left his small house, he crossed the street, snuck between two buildings and walked a block to see the gas station. He entered the doors, grabbing a bag of chips and a coke, tossing some money on the counter. He checked out and sat on a bench outside to eat.
'You have GOT to be kidding me.' Daniel thought, as he looked up from his seat on the swing. Johnny was seated a couple yards away. "No time like the present.." he mumbled to himself and stood up. He double guessed himself, and tried to stop, but his feet wouldn't cooperate. Before he knew it, he was in front of Johnny. What was he going to say? He had no clue.
Johnny was halfway through his chips, looking down at the sidewalk, when two familiar sneakers appeared in his vision, and a shadow fell on him. He stood up, putting his chips down. "What are you doing here, punk?"Johnny looked down at Daniel.
"I want you to stop.. Stop messing with me." He looked right back at him.
"We'll call it a truce for tonight, let me eat in peace." Johnny replied, pushing Daniel gently and then laughing.
Danny flinched upon getting pushed, but he didn't stumble. He blinked, and sat down next to Johnny. Johnny leaned back, munching on a chip.
"Why.. why aren't you acting like.. Well, like a jerk?"
"Don't give me a reason to." Johnny sighed, scooting away. He wouldn't admit it, but the only reason he was ever mean to Danny was to impress his sensei, and his friends. He found Danny's company to be oddly.. Enjoyable. He offered LaRusso a chip, and he smiled and took one.
Danny looked up at the sky, shivering but pretending he didn't notice it. "So, what are you doing here? It's pretty late, and a school night. but I doubt that you care about that."
"I don't have to explain myself to you."
"Yeah- you're right. Sorry."
Johnny groaned inwardly "I couldn't sleep, I wanted a snack. I'm sorry for being sharp.. You're just trying to start a conversation. What about you?"
"I needed to get out of my house, get some air. Mainly, I needed to think." He smiled a little, as what he needed to think about was well.. Johnny. Danny inhaled sharply, suddenly very aware of the soft, floaty tickling feeling in his chest that he got around Johnny. He kept his eyes on the sky, the moonlight shining on his face, making his eyes sparkle a little.
Johnny noticed. He noticed how his hair seemed to shimmer, how he looked like a humanoid version of a star. He looked.. He looked great. Johnny's ears reddened and he prayed it wasn't visible in the dark. Daniel looked back over at Johnny, and was going to say something, but shivered again before he could talk.
Johnny looked at him shivering, and reluctantly went to take off his sweatshirt. Johnny was used to the cold, as he'd slept in it for three days.
"Woah woah woah, what are you doing-" Danny said, standing up, and stepping back.
"You're cold." Johnny said simply, and pulled it up and over his head.
"Oh. but-?"
Johnny already had it off, and threw it at Daniel. Danny smiled and put it on "Thanks Johnny.. Maybe you aren't so bad."
"Neither are you, LaRusso. Neither are you."
"Well.. Thank you." He glanced at his watch "Damn.. It's almost one thirty. I gotta go."
"Hey, let me walk you home... It's on my way, anyway." That was a lie, but Johnny couldn't care less.
Danny nodded, and they started walking. On the way, a roll of thunder drummed overhead. Johnny flinched, and held his elbows, on edge. "You okay?" Danny asked
"Y..yeah. All good." Johnny crossed his arms and held himself slightly. Danny smiled at him curiously.
"Are you.. Scared of thunder?" Johnny looked offended by this
"Hell no!" But as another rumble came from the sky, and his face went white, Danny knew.
"You are!" He grinned and chuckled a little.
Johnny grabbed LaRusso by the sweatshirt collar, and pushed him against the wall of the nearest building.
"Hey- hey! What about our truce!"
"You gave me a reason to be a jerk."
"Look, I'm sorry for laughing."
Johnny nodded "Yeah, and I better not hear any rumors about this going round at school, you got me? Any of tonight. The sweatshirt, the thunder, the truce. Not. A. Word." He brought his face up to Daniels as he said the last three words.
Danny smiled, and offered Johnny a handshake "Not a word, Lawrence." Johnny took it, and they walked the rest of the way in silence. When they got to Daniel's window, he started to take the sweatshirt off.
"Nah, nah. You can keep it. It's old and I have plenty of others." Johnny said.
"Thanks again Johnny. Goodnight!"
"Goodnight, punk." Daniel closed his window, now inside. He waved to Johnny, and Johnny waved back, turning around. "Goodnight, Daniel." He whispered, and started walking home. "Daniel." He grinned, laughing at his own stupidity.
