Meanwhile Jerry was lying, barely alive in a crater, blood pouring from all over his body creating a pool for him to stay in. A bright light kept Jerry from drifting into unconsciousness and a familiar voice spoke out from the darkness

"Jerry! Jerry! Speak to me Jerry!" hands grabbed Jerry and pulled him out of the crater. Getting back to the dugout was slow work as the person dragging seemed to be smaller than Jerry himself. "Come on Jerry, in we go, you just sit yourself down there, I'll try to find something for you to drink and patch you up a bit." Jerry was unaware of what happened next, only that when he awoke he was lying in a makeshift hospital bed surrounded by doctors; sat in a chair beside the bed was Tim, asleep with bandages around his head and arms. It was Tim that saved Jerry from the bombs, It was Tim who dragged him back to safety and asked for help. It was Tim who saved his life. As he sat there he realised that if anything was to happen to Tim he would never forgive himself.

Eventually Tim awoke and had to leave for his duties on the frontline leaving Jerry to his thoughts. Helga visited Jerry with a stern looking general by her side. Behind the general was Tim, handcuffed and looking grave.

"Private Jerry Banes?" spoke the general.

          "Yes?"

"We have reason to believe that you have been hiding this German girl  in your dugout for the last month when you are fully aware that is punishable by death." He looked around at Tim. "The three of you will regrettably have to face the court marshal and firing squad. You have brought this upon yourselves as traitors to your country. You have 3 days to say your goodbyes and make sure your affairs are set in order. Good day gentlemen." The general walked out and two soldiers led away Tim, Helga and Jerry to a cell where they spent their time writing letters to family until Jerry suggested they escape.

"If we get out of here we can go and live with my dad and sister, I'm sure they won't mind, at least we'll be safe, for a while at least".

"But how are we going to go about escaping?" Jerry explained his plan while Tim listened intently. The plan would take place that evening giving them plenty of time to get away and recover any mistakes if necessary.

Thankfully for the boys and Helga the plan was carried out successfully and they managed to get away without being noticed.
