Age 850
______________
Some time before the Prologue
Hercules rocketed across the skyline of Conton City. The Saiyan couldn't help but smile as he soared through the air; he loved the sensation that came with flying. Hercules waved to onlookers down below as he flew to his destination: the Time Nest. Not too far in the distance, he spotted the Supreme Kai of Time waiting for him. Initiating his descent, he touched down a few meters in front of her.
"You're late!" The Supreme Kai of Time pointed her finger accusingly at Hercules. "What took you so long?"
"Oh, yeah, sorry about that." Hercules rubbed the back of his head sheepishly. "I saw this old geezer trying to cross the street so I stopped to help."
"Oh, really? That's nice of you." The lady Kai narrowed her eyes. "But there are no elderly living in Conton City!" She leaped into the air and smacked the young Saiyan on the back of the head, her anger manifesting.
"What?? No, I swear! He was bald, and hunched over, and had gray hair, and he was really really tall-"
"NONE OF THAT MAKES SENSE," The Supreme Kai of Time decked Hercules again, this time leaving the patroller on the ground covering his head.
"Uh, is this a bad time?"
The Supreme Kai of Time and Hercules looked over to see Trunks waiting awkwardly nearby.
"No, this is a great time! Just teaching one of our men to not be tardy." She shot Hercules a look that could shoot daggers. Hercules climbed to his feet, still rubbing the sore spot on his head. "Do I have a mission? Is that why you guys summoned me?"
"Yes, we do." Trunks nodded in affirmation. He looked to the Supreme Kai, who's tone had suddenly shifted to that of nervousness and concern.
"A new time rift has cropped up," Chronoa said with a serious look on her face. "I'm sending you in to investigate it."
"And then fix whatever is causing the problem, right?" Hercules asked, confused. "You're sending me in to just investigate a rift? Isn't that what Trunks is supposed to do?"
"It's a bit complicated," Chronoa explained. "You see, as far as I can tell, there isn't anything wrong. There's just a rift, but no change in history. It's so bizarre."
"Due to the fact that we don't know exactly what dangers lie there, we figured it's best to send you, to avoid any needless loss of life." Trunks finished the Supreme Kai of Time's thought. Hercules smiled broadly.
"Oh, I see! Send me in, the top Time Patroller, to make sure nothing runs amuck!" He flipped through various poses, doing Kamehamehas and flexing his arms in self-admiration. "You sure are smarter than you look, Supreme Kai of Time!"
"I'm way smarter than you, you fight-loving meathead!" Chronoa leaped up for a third time, smacking Hercules across the face. Trunks let out a slight laugh, then clarified: "Well, you aren't going in alone. We're assigning you a team."
Hercules, who was cowering on the ground and cradling his jaw, looked up in confusion. "A partner?"
"Yeah, get used to it." Standing by one of the nearby pillars was a tall and stoic Namekian. His arms were crossed and his face wore a deathly-serious expression. Next to him were two other figures, a tall human male and a short human female.
"These are your partners: Caracol, Tempura, and Miyoma." Tempura, the male Earthling, gave a friendly nod, while Miyoma gave a shy wave. Caracol, the Namekian, merely grunted in exasperation and looked at the Supreme Kai of Time.
"Now that the Saiyan is here, can we depart?"
"Of course!" The Supreme Kai of Time smiled. "Just follow me and we'll send you all on your way!"
The group of six walked up the massive stairs that lead to the Time Nest, all the while the four Time Patrollers made small talk amongst themselves. Hercules and Tempura seemed to be getting along the best, while Caracol wasn't exactly the talkative type and Miyoma mainly just hovered around her male counterpart. Hercules learned that Tempura had been working in the Time Patrol for over a decade, and that he was within the top five of the best Time Patrollers. Caracol, on the other hand, wasn't much interested in the rankings.
"Those are just numbers, they aren't a true measure of one's strength."
"Whatever you say, bud." Tempura laughed, sunlight glinting off of his blue visor-like scouter.
"Where do you rank, Hercules?" Miyoma inquired.
"I'm not sure, to be completely honest." Hercules folded his fingers together and placed his hands on the back of his head. "My ego would like to guess around ten."
"More like 25," the Supreme Kai of Time called back from the front. Trunks and Tempura laughed, while Miyoma giggled.
"Well maybe Caracol is right, the numbers don't matter." Hercules turned his nose to the sky as he tried to regain his lost dignity, which caused his company to laugh a little more.
Soon, the group arrived at the Time Nest, where the Elder Kai was waiting for them.
"Glad to see you lot finally show up," the older god jabbed. "I was worried I might actually die of old age if you took any longer to show."
"Oh, stuff it old man." Chronoa retorted, scooping a corrupted scroll out of the Elder Kai's hands and handing it to Tempura. "Remember, this is a recon mission first and foremost. Try your best to avoid anything too extreme, okay?"
"Understood," the Earthling replied with a smile.
"Alright!" Hercules exclaimed, balling his hands into fists. "I hope there are some strong warriors for me to fight over there!"
"You Saiyans are such simple creatures," Caracol scoffed.
"Well, to be fair, I am getting pretty excited myself." Tempura turned to look at Hercules. "I call dibs on whatever evil-doer we encounter first!"
"What?? No fair!"
The Supreme Kai of Time shook her head. "Enough chit-chat, you guys need to hurry up and get going!"
Hercules and Tempura nodded, the latter of which holding out the scroll for the members of his squad to grab onto. "Okay, we're off!" Tempura gave a salute, Miyoma waved, Hercules raised a peace sign, and Caracol nodded. In a flash of blinding white light, the squad of four vanished from the Time Nest.

"Looks like the Time Patrol is finally on the move." A figure shrouded in darkness sat in front of a computer monitor, observing the four patrollers exit the Time Nest. "Right, then... let's begin the experiment."
*Author's note: Chronoa is the Supreme Kai of Time's name.
