The wind billowed through blonde hair, tickling the girls neck as she perfected her dress in a mirror.
She pulled her hair over her shoulder, puffing it until it looked okay. She made her way to the open window and sat on the ledge.
She stared out into the sky, looking at the people piling into the kingdom courtyard waiting for the gates to open. Her heart beat in her chest like a bird in a cage.
She closed her eyes and let the wind blow in her face and hair, trying to calm herself down before the ball.
She was interrupted by a knock on the door. She turned to see her mother in an ankle length, tuape colored gown with lace sleeves.
“Oh, Lovisa, what did you do to your hair?” She tsks, rushing over and fixing it, backing away to look and grins.
“You look so beautiful.” She goes to turn Lovisa to look at herself in her mirror. The green tulle dress with leaves embroidered on clung to her frame, hugging her hips in the right places. Lovisa awkwardly moved.
“It's too tight,” She grimaced. Her mother sighed and waved her off, going to leave the room.
“Be down in a few minutes, we will be opening the gates soon.” She closed the door behind her, heading to her youngest daughter's room.
Lovisa sighed, trying to slouch but couldn't due to how tight her dress is. She did her best bending down and slipping her heels on and getting down to the gates.
She saw her sister in a beautiful white tulle dress with flowers. She felt something swirl in her gut as her sister glared at her from across the room.
Lovisa quickly made her way to the gates where her mother, father and sister were standing and tried her best to fix her posture before her mother commented on it.
“Suck in, dear. Can't let the people seeing your tummy, can we?” Her mother teased, giving her a light pat on the shoulder before going to fuss over her sister.
Lovisa stared solemnly at her mother and sister as they shared smiles, her mother stroking her sisters hair in adoration. Lovisa craved the love in her mother's eyes. She wished she was able to see the love she had seen years before, when she was just a little girl who didn't know what she was supposed to do.
“Open the gates!” Her mother announced from her spot next to the king, quickly perfecting herself before standing tall. Lovisa and her sister quickly followed, trying their best to please their mother.
The gates opened and revealed the beautiful sky with the bright shining sun that was shining all over the people waiting in the courtyard. People soon started to file into the ballroom, chatting and eating the hors d'oeuvre that were placed out.
The queen and king talked to many passerby, along with many other kingdoms with requests. Lovisa and Clare stood in their spot waiting for their mother to call them from their spot.
It was like that for most of the night until their mother called them over to talk to, from the looks of it, a king and a prince.
“Clare, this is King Maurice from Kingdom Raylaunders. Their son is participating in your betrothal.” Her mother smiled, putting her hands on Clare's shoulders and pushing her towards the prince.
“Mum—” Lovisa tried to speak but received a pinch on the neck from her mother. She grimaced, bringing a hand up to rub her neck to pluck the flowers that grew there but it got slapped away by her mother.
“You speak when you're spoken to. You move when you're told to.” She whispered through gritted teeth. A tiny red flower popped on her mother's eyebrow.
