Damaged. The only word there is to describe our world. All the beautiful cities that were once prosperous, have been reduced to nothing, completely wiped out by the terrible illness that is plaguing our world. The once beautiful fields and prairies are reduced to nothing but memories of what once was. The rivers that once flowed with life, now flow with nothing but broken dreams, and hopelessness. The last of humankind is confined behind walls of the last three remaining cities in the world, searching for safety from the illness.
Lost. The only way to describe the people living in solitude behind these walls of the cities. All hope is lost in finding a cure after living with the illness for so long. Seeing only what the media want them to see, and hearing only what they want to hear. Blindly going about their day to day life, not seeing what is really going on around them. Following the strict guidelines without a question, in hopes that they will keep them safe from the illness.
1. You may not leave the house without a mask. Faces are concealed behind medical masks, nothing seen but their eyes. Neighbor can not be distinguished from neighbor, friend from friend, sister from sister, brother from brother. 2. Weekly checkups are strongly enforced. Every week, lines for the doctor's office are lined around the block. Civilians waiting for their weekly checkup, praying they show no signs of the illness. 3. Civilians must be tested each month NO EXCEPTIONS. Hundreds of tests are sent in each month, civilians waiting apprehensively for their results. 4. Civilians must be vaccinated monthly. Civilians are injected with a vaccine, in hopes that it will delay the inevitable of getting ill, until a permanent cure is found. Young children cry out as the needle pierces their skin, adults barely flinch used to the sharp, quick pain. 5. Curfew is at 9 o'clock sharp, unless in possession of a written permit. Parents and children scurry home, while medical and safety officials stay out late into the night, doing their job to protect their city. 6. You can not leave your city NO EXCEPTIONS. The same streets, the same buildings, the same walls of the same city every day. No one knows what goes on beyond the walls of their city, what goes on behind the walls of others.
Chaos. The only word to describe what is to come. This is our world, all we know, all we have lived. There is more to our world than what we see, what we hear, what we are shown. This is our story.
