Mewni. Star Butterfly knew it merely as a home. For about 2 years.
Once she discovered there was more to the un-refined planet than what she was exposed to during infancy, she took the chance to explore her environment. She traveled to different kingdoms, met new people, and discovered her interests. Star had even briefly dated the prince of the Underworld, Tom Lucitor, when she was 8.
As Star grew, however, her distaste for castle life expanded along with it. Which wasn't necessarily a good thing considering soon enough she would be crowned Queen and would spend 95% of her life in a castle. Obviously, this was something that worried her parents, Queen Moon and King River.
And they were becoming increasingly aware of something else; Star was approaching the age of 14, the duration in which the magic wand, always wielded by the Mewman Queen, was to be passed down to the next heir during the Little Tree Ceremony. Usually this was a good thing, as it represented growth in Mewman society as well as simply abiding by a sacred tradition that been ongoing for over a millennia.
But because of Star's destructive habits and alternative personality, it could have lead to massive consequences. Star didn't know any of this, for she never read any of the hymnals or textbooks required for a princess of her maturity. Of course, Star said she had read them, but the actual productivity when it came to this subject had a lot to be desired.
When the day of the ceremony arrived, Star was doodling around when a loud, agitating sound came on the speakers.
"Princess Star Butterfly, to the Royal Castle of Mewni, NOW," it said
"Ugh, why did we have to invent those stupid, good-for-bad speakers!" Star groaned.

"What, mom?" Star cried when she reached the throne room. Her mother gave her a sideways glare, whilst everyone else in the courtroom exchanged humorous glances.
"Do... do you even what we're doing today?" she asked in a low growl.
"'Course I do! It's the... ugh... birthday! Y-you're birthday, I mean! Like, how could I forget my mom's birthday. Crazy, right?!"
Her mother shoved her face into her palms. "Star... you did forget my birthday. 6 times over, in fact. And that is definitely not why we are having the LITTLE TREE CEREMONY!!!"
"Oh yeah, that's for the wand isn't it? Why is it called the Little Tree Ceremony, anyways? I don't see how a tree shares any correlation with a blimin' wand!"
Her mother sighed again. "Look, Star. Can... we please talk about this later?"
Star chuckled. "Your loss, not mine."
A long, uncomfortable silence followed. It was abruptly ended when Moon snapped her fingers.
"And you're late! I thought you read the book for proper time etiquette!"
Star gave an uneasy smile, trying to soothe the tension. In reality, she was incredibly scared.
"Um, I forgot?"
The muscular, white-haired queen sighed. "Well, you're here now, so there's no point in delaying any further. Star, please step forward."
"Yes, mom," Star said sheepishly as she followed her mother's demands.
"Do you promise to use this wand responsibly?" And when Star nodded, she continued, "And do you pledge to protect it no matter the outcome, even if it means your life, your family, or your lover?"
Star hesitated. "Y-yes mom," she squeaked.
"Then you shall take the wand from my hands, and you shall decide the rest."
Star then proceeded to grab a tool that held unimaginable power, and was capable of mass destruction. Like clockwork, marks that were derivative of hearts suddenly appeared on both of her cheeks.
Her mother continued. "And with that, the ceremony is at an end. Thank you for cooperating, Star. I really do appreciate it." She said the last sentence with emotion unparalleled by anything she had said before in years. The once silent crowded erupted into deafening applause.
"Um, no problem mom," Star said, though it got drowned by the rabid audience.
