When the attacks began, Luiza's had opened her doors, welcoming anyone seeking safety from the terrors outside. A man sitting on a crate was drinking sloppily, his balance unstable as he grew tipsier with every swig he siped. A man on crutches cowered away in the farthest corner, away from sudden danger. An older woman wept, silently mourning the immediate loss of her husband. The inhabitants of the house sat at a round table situated in the middle of the room. Luiza sitting near the fireplace, warmth embracing her back as she faced {y/n}, initiating some sort of conversation. A desperate knock interrupted their small talk as everyone stood silent and alert.
Another survivor?
{y/n} stood up quickly, willing to aid the next person seeking refuge from the monsters that terrorized the village. However, Luiza was quicker, halting her actions before she could take another step.
"Wait here," Luiza walked out of the room. Everyone alert and quiet as they focus on Luiza's footsteps fading farther. They all waited impatiently and anxiously, never knowing exactly who would turn up in front of their only safe place. Soon Luiza led two familiar faces of the village. Leonardo and his daughter Elena. Leonardo had sustained concerning injuries, groaning in pain with every movement he made. {y/n} stood up, pulling out Luiza's chair offering the seat towards the clearly injured man without a word, staring at him cautiously.
Elena looked around anxiously yet satisfied. She finally reached a safe haven and with the hell her and her father had gone through, it felt almost unbelievable. {y/n} made her way towards the couch at the end of the room. Luiza stepped out again. Curious eyes stared at Leonardo, wondering how he got hurt and how he was able to survive.
"Come inside, the others are waiting," Luiza offered as she lifted the curtain and stepped aside in the room, revealing a blond man. A man no one has seen before. A stranger. A foreigner.
What is she doing?
"What the fuck is this? Outsiders-You're gonna get us all killed," Anton yelled from the crate he drunkenly sat on. Anger arose from him as slurred his words towards Luiza. {y/n} couldn't help but silently agree with the incoherent man. How could Luiza bring in a stranger? He could've lured those things in here for all they are aware of.
"Quiet. Anton. He helped Leonardo and Elena," Luiza justified. Trying to ease the tension which quickly appeared in the room. The feeling of uneasiness spread throughout despite Luiza's reassurance.
"We were doing fine by ourselves," Leonardo argued, groaning in discomfort. The older man stubborn despite the help the outsider granted.
"Please, Ethan. Take a seat," Luiza pulled the chair across from Leonardo. Ethan sat, glancing around the room. His eyes examined the last of the village. {y/n} observed him from afar. Her eyes trailed towards a poorly bandaged hand where two fingers were missing.
"Is this all that's left? From your entire village?" He asked. Looking around once more in disbelief. Of course he'd expect more. He hoped there were more. Maybe then this whole thing wouldn't seem so crazy than it already was.
"All that's left? All that's left?! There is no one left!" Anton stumbled off of his seat, startling Ethan a bit. Anton began waddling around the room, stumbling with every word he spat. "A worthless invalid!" He grimaced at {y/n}, who seemed unoffended by his rude outburst. "A stupid wailing bitch!" He yelled at the widow who was whimpering in shame. He glared at Luiza, "And you! You drag a bloody man and an outsider in here like it's nothing?" He leaned forward, menacingly, "And expect to be all safe?"
"Every sorry bastard out there has been ripped in half. But tomorrow..." Anton swings the bottle of alcohol over his head, drinking the last of his liquor. "Tomorrow we'l all be dead. Just like her damn husband!" He points to the weeping widow, who now burst into tears with Anton's words. "Put a sock in it, Roxanna!"
