TW// SUICIDE, MENTION OF EATING DISORDER AND SELFHARM

"Liam, I will miss you. Please turn away from the ledge. Liam please I know we haven't known each other for as long as I would have loved but I will miss you."

"Aroha Mason. ka tutaki ano tatou" (translation: Sorry Mason. We'll meet again.)

"Kaua e Liam." (translation: Liam don't)

"He aha?" (translation: why?)

"Because it's not worth it. It doesn't take the pain away it transfers it to someone else."

"See that's where you're wrong no one cares enough to feel the pain of my death. I'll be doing the world a favor."

"I care Liam," Mason spoke up taking a step towards me.

"Mason don't. Don't pretend you care."

Mason's POV

How could he think that? I felt my heart sink. But this is not about me. "Liam I'm not pretending I do care, please step away from the edge."

"Don't come any closer!" He yelled tears slowly falling down his cheeks.

The boy Liam was talking looked over at Doctor Rodriguez who gave him a subtle nod. I didn't pay attention to them to know what they were on about.

"Liam, please I'm not pretending, I promise you I'm not."

"I'm sorry Mason. Ka pouri ahau Nikau."

Mason's POV

What scared me the most wasn't the fact that he jumped but it was his face before he jumped he was happy to have died.

I stared down at his pale motionless body on the bed. I now understood the silent conversation between Doctor Rodriguez and the other patient. They had set up a series of safety nets a floor below the roof. Liam had fallen into one.

I could still hear him yelling at the nurses and doctors as they tried to get him back to his room. He had to be restrained and sedated, he tried to reopen his cuts. He was really ready to die.

Meanwhile...

Doctor Rodriguez's POV

"I want to believe there is a reason for holding a meeting of utmost importance at such short notice."

"Yes Doctor Brighton I do, it's about Mabel... The irritation going around the room is a mutual feeling believe me."

"What has she done this time?"

"I believe the question should be what hasn't she done. I'll page her."

"So what's the problem this time?"

"Well, Doctor Williams I need to fire her."

"It's about bloody time," Doctor Williams muttered under her breath. "Apart from the fact that she shouldn't have been offered a job here and was nothing more than a bloody charity case, what has fueled your intentions to fire her?"

"She encouraged two patients to commit suicide. One of which tried, but thanks to the hospital's safety protocols we were able to save them, the family are suing her," Ms. Hemmings, our head of legal department stated as she walked in. Nurse Mabel not too far behind.

Nurse Mabel walked in, "you paged me?"

"Have a seat or stand, do whatever I don't care, you're only going to be here for like five minutes anyway," I said agitated by her. "So I'm just going to cut to the chase, you're fired and the Magnus family are filing a lawsuit against you."
