the snow fell onto the ground creating an undisturbed sheet of white, it was pleasing. but pleasing things are meant to be ruined, in this case the beautiful snow was meant to be littered in displeasing footprints. now the snow was ugly. they reached a corridor. "watch carefully akito. it's all about to fall into place."

at the time he didn't know what that meant, but it didn't confuse him or scare him it only peeked his interest. he began to hum, a song he didn't remember hearing. the sound of footsteps and heavy breathing, there was a boy, he looked a year younger than him. he looked tired, scared, guilty, and determined...?

he was a weird boy. this thought only grew stronger when he tackled guren to the floor, he was very weird. he didn't mind though. not one bit.

on the walk back the boy collapsed, he was probably tired, and maybe hungry. "carry him akito." he did as told, putting the boy carefully on his back and carrying him to the rooms. he put his hand on the door nob to leave but was stopped, "what's your name?" his head turned towards the boy.

he was laying face up. his arms and legs sprawled out, his face blank. "akito. whats yours?" he moved to sit down in one of the old chairs. "yuuichiro, yuu for short." he nodded, it went silent for a few moments but akito knew better than to leave. the boy was scared and conflicted. he needed someone with him. akito didn't care if that were to be him or not. but if it was he'd go beyond to make sure he'd turn out okay, or something like that.

"why did you join the demon army? you look young." akito nodded, "i am, only thirteen. but i didn't choose to be here, i was forced." yuu chuckled from beside him, looking up with tired eyes, "you talk like an old man." akito was confused by this, he wasn't aware if this was a compliment or rather an insult, but he didn't question it. he looked away at the blank walls, letting his eyes scan over every pattern and crack.

he felt as yuu intertwined their fingers, "are you afraid?" the boy yawned and shook his head, "i'm not scared, i'm just sad." any normal person would've asked why, but by the look on yuu's face he barely knew himself, he was so overwhelmed and tired. akito decided to let him sleep.

soon after guren entered the room, "akito, i was looking for you." he sighed, looking off into the distance, he must've been tired too. guren knelt down placing a hand on his knee, "it's been days since you last slept, would you like to come sleep on the couch in my office?" he nodded rubbing his eye letting guren carefully pick him up. he was like a father to akito, he had found him when he was living with a separate group in the slums. he saved him, brought him to the demon army to fill up the void he had.

he took care of him, taught him how to speak, read, and do other basic things. it was almost like he was his real dad. nothing like the other monster who was his real father. akito didn't remember much about him, when he tries he comes up blank, it's as if he's stuck deep under sheets and sheets of snow. he can't breathe nor see, it is terrifying.

akito looks up at yuuichiro with a stern look. "i will be leaving to discuss something with the higher ups, do not get yourself into trouble because i will not be here to help you out of it, understand?" yuu nodded, laying his body against the white sheets. "yeah yeah, whatever. what are you going to 'discuss' with those idiots." he put quotes around the word discuss, mocking akito. "do not call them idiots for without them you would be nothing, and it's confidential. when i get back i will tell you about it vaguely."

"it pays to have someone so high up as a friend." akito continued to shove clothes into an overnight bag. he looked up and sighed, making eye contact with yuuichiro. "yuu. please don't get into any trouble." yuu nodded slowly, he was confused. the look on akito's face was so genuine and troubled. he wanted to ask if something was wrong but he knew he wouldn't get an answer. akito never talked about his feelings, it was as if he had a wall around his heart that he would open to no one.

"i promise." akito smiled softly, "thank you. now walk me out, guren is here." akito grabbed his bag and walked to the door where guren was waiting, "you're late." guren laughed as akito glared at him. "oh hush it, now come out."

"bye yuu!"

"bye akito!"

as soon as they were out of yuuichiro's sight, akito fell to the gorund. his body trembled as he pulled himself close, "they're going to kill me aren't they...?" guren knelt down, "i dont know for sure, but we won't let them." a warm aura surrounded itself around akito, "...ryo..." ryo, akito's demon, but he wasn't just his demon. he was so much more than that. akito believed him to be his guardian spirit, ryo could present himself in the human form, but he only did it for akito. he had contracts with other humans just like every other demon, but something about akito was different. he saw a light in him that he had never saw. it was magnificent, it reminded him of his days as a human. he sought out for that light, and to keep it lit forever.

the day he first saw it he vowed to himself to protect it, whether it would sacrifice his life or not. at first he had simply fallen in love with the light inside him, but over the years he had grown quite fond of akito, he wanted to protect him as a whole. akito was precious to him. and he would never let anything happen to him.

"alright, we're gonna be late." akito nodded standing up still slightly light headed. the aura solidified from beside him, "allow me to assist you." he glanced over at him, "ryo." the other chuckled as he carried him to the car, opening the door for him and setting him into the backseat, "rest my love, i will stay to protect you." guren had never really been fond of ryo, but he didn't try anything considering how much he did for akito.

he looked back from the rearview mirror, akito's head was rested on ryo's shoulder. he seem out of it, he looked miles away. his eyes were blank, empty, completely dead. you would think he was if you couldn't see how labored his breathing was. "he isn't well, he was given quite a spook back there." guren scoffed, as if he couldn't tell that. "he saw his father for no more than a mere second, he is afraid, as of right now he is so far gone that he cannot differentiate between reality and what is the dark thing known as his mind." akito gripped slightly on ryo's hand, startling him slightly.

"we should be there soon, kureto is waiting for us. when we get there you can take him away and figure something out." ryo hummed as he ran his fingers over akito's knuckles admiring them, he needed to protect him. at any cost.
