Florence was shy, internally

Florence was shy, internally. She loved to meet new people, but often found it hard to initiate conversations. It was a hard combination to have: extroversion + shyness = lots of confusion. Yet this table of people talking was relentless, and kept her distracted with questions.

"So, tell us, Florence. How did you manage to get Bella to sit with us for the first time in months?" Said a girl with shiny blonde hair. "I'm Jessica, by the way. Soon to be valedictorian." Jessica grinned, proud to let someone else know that she was cool.

"Oh, shh." Quipped a blond boy flanking her right. "Florence, I'm Mike. It's nice to meet you. And Bella, it is actually really nice to have you back." Mike had two bright blue eyes transfixed on the two girls, reaching out his hand to greet Flor's.

"I'm Angela." A brunette spoke up. "I know this sounds weird, but you have really nice hair." Angela folded her hands and rest her chin on them, shooting Florence a soft smile. Florence deemed her the kindest.

Lastly, a boy with messy hair and sitting on Angela's right spoke up. "And I'm her boyfriend, Eric. Hey, do you all wanna see a movie?" He quickly changed the subject, eager for the group to get a weekend plan started.

All of their greetings flooded into Florence's mind. She was happy for the noise. Not being alone in her thoughts was nice for a change.

Bella, on the other hand, had a blush set on her face. She was slightly ashamed that this was, in fact, the first day in months she had sat down to see her old friends. With her boyfriend, or ex-boyfriend, Edward Cullen, gone all school year, this was the first time she made an effort to be slightly happy again. In her mind, she thanked Florence to give her a semblance of that happiness again. Turns out, all she needed to feel at peace again was to have something in common with someone.

"Leah, I'm telling you, that blond guy is not as into his girlfriend as he should be."

Leah Clearwater sat across from Flor on the dark green rug she kept in her room. Flor, meanwhile, lounging on one of her chairs was recounting everything about her first day at Forks High to her best friend.

"I mean, if anything, he's like way into Bella." Florence said. "Even I could tell."

"Well, I can tell you all about that." Leah snapped. "Unrequited love is a bitch."

Florence, sensing the change in Leah's attitude from this morning, looked her friend in the eyes with a concerned look.

"Did something happen with Sam?!" Florence demanded. Sam was Leah's boyfriend, but he had been ignoring Leah lately. Leah had tried not to mention her boy problems often, as she didn't want to seem so clingy, but today she couldn't help herself.

Leah stood up and sat herself criss-cross onto Florence's bed. Putting her head into her hands, she admitted to Flor what had been bothering her all afternoon. "Sam broke up with me today."

Florence immediately got up and went to hug her best friend. "God, that d*ck." She muttered under her breath, shaking her head. "Why the hell did he do that? What an assh*le."

Leah scoffed her throat in agreement. "Honestly, what hasn't he been doing lately?"

"He cuts all his hair off, gets those two groupies Paul and Jared to follow him around everywhere, and shuts me off from everything."

Florence, hearing only a little bit about this change in Sam's behavior for the last 2 weeks, could only try to comfort her friend more.

"I mean, the only thing I can hold onto," Leah continued, "was that he at least looked sorry for hurting me."

"He will be sorry after he's done with me," Florence quipped.

In an effort to try to cheer her friend up, Florence showed her a few "sick moves" as she dubbed them. "And then, I kick him right in the balls." Florence said, demonstrating the movement.

Leah laughed at Flor's antics, but looked away.

"What's wrong?" Florence asked.

Leah looked back at her friend. Millions of thoughts ran across her mind at a time. On the one hand, she wanted to tell Flor about the real reason Sam broke up with her. On the other hand, she wanted her best friend to keep the mood light-hearted, as she was already doing. She decided against omitting the truth to her bestie, though. After all was said and done, they were basically sisters, and shared the closest bond as friends any two girls could have. They were each other's outlet, where they could always help each other no matter what happened.

"I didn't tell you exactly why Sam broke up with me." Leah admitted.

Florence almost didn't catch what Leah was saying, had it not been for the fact she was paying extreme attention. She stayed silent, urging her friend to say what was heavy on her mind.

"He found someone else."

In that moment, Leah felt broken. Her lip quivered, and her eyes welled up with tears. "Her name's Emily. And she didn't even know who he was. He told me he felt a connection, some sort of pull in his mind to her."

At this point, Leah was reaching for Flor's embrace. "What kind of assh*le, pushes someone away while feeling a moronic 'pull' to someone else?" She cried.

Florence replied in anger. "An assh*le that doesn't deserve you, that's who."

"All I wanted was to be happy with him," Leah cried. Thoughts about her newfound loneliness ran across her mind. "Now you're gone, too, and I have no one to sit with at lunch to talk about this." She said, falling backwards onto Flor's bed.

Staring at the ceiling, Florence did feel a hint of guilt. She knew that Leah would get over Florence leaving to attend Forks High, but she didn't know if she would get over Sam Uley.

As the two kept talking through their problems into the night, one thought appeared in both of their minds.

It's been a long f*cking day.
