「 bad ending 」
BAKUGO GRITTED HIS TEETH, diverting his attention at the last second. He whipped his head to the left and let out a burst of explosions, swooping in just in time to save the boy and carry him to the other side of the street. He could hardly pay attention to the mother who had fallen onto her knees, weeping at how grateful she was.
He didn't even bother staying to chew out the driver.
Instead, he let out more explosions, briefly telling the kid to stay safe before jumping into the air again. He veered to the left, crossing over more buildings as explosions rang out from his hands. From the sidewalks, people shouted his pro-hero name in surprise, yelling words of praise. However, this only made him angrier.
Why couldn't they see he was in a rush?
He didn't have time for this.
He only had time for you.
More explosions burst from his palms as he shot forward.
Suddenly, he dropped.
Bakugo scuffed his shoes as he dropped from the sky, landing swiftly onto the pavement. A few people shouted and yelped in surprise at his abrupt appearance. He burst into the apartment complex and practically sprinted up the steps to your shared apartment. His hands were shaking when he opened the door and he didn't even bother to lock it.
With his quick hands, he unlatched his gauntlets; he didn't want to risk hurting you if he had to tackle you to prevent you from hurting yourself again. They fell onto the ground loudly and he froze. All the air in his lungs left within seconds and his face became deathly pale. A mixture of nausea, guilt, and emptiness washed over him and tears filled his eyes.
There was no point in taking off his gauntlets.
There was nothing to protect.
You were dead, slumped against the floor as blood poured from your wounds. The kitchen knife laid near your abdomen, your cold fingers curled around nothing just a few inches away from its handle. Gazing at your corpse just a foot away from his own living figure, he wished he could reverse it all.
He wished that the world wasn't cruel and that he wasn't so stupid. Why else would you be so reassuring and happy yesterday? Why else would you tell him to stay safe but show no concern for yourself? Why else would you let him hold you wordlessly when you hadn't shown an ounce of affection until then?
On his knees, silenced by your death, Katsuki was forced to confront a cold hard truth.
No matter how hard a hero tries, they can't save everyone.
