Every night after work, I rush to the same old store at the end of the road.
Will he be there, cigarette in hand, and distress in his eyes?"Y/N, over here." Ukai waves from across the counter.
Tears in my eyes, I walked over to him.
"Woah, you alright?" He handed me a pack of MikeAndIkes.
I wasn't alright. Thoughts we're racing my mind.
"I'm going to go crazy." I sat down on top of the counter.
"Another boy? Tell me about it."
I watched Ukai as he walked over to the door, flipping the "OPEN" sign, which now read "CLOSED"."It's closing time already?" I used the sleeve of my shirt to wipe off my tears.
"Nah." He smiled at me, sitting down.
This boy is a gem.
Me and Keishin Ukai grew up in the same village.
His grandfather was a strict man. I remember him chasing Ukai down because he snuck out to see me.No matter what, we never lost contact.
Ukai moved to the city 15 years ago.
We were 11.He used his grandfather's phone to call me every single night after he moved.
We were best friends.
Still are.*9/23/2019*
Headache.
My phone was buzzing at 3 in the morning.
I barely got any sleep."Hello?" I groaned as I answer the phone.
"Takeda begged me all day to become a stupid High School Volleyball coach."
"Keishin? This is why you called me this late?" I was pissed.
I wanted to throw my phone across the room. However, I kept my cool. "Being a coach might be good for you. Grandpa Ukai will be proud."
"Yeah, that old man sure will be.. I'll take it into consideration, then. Thank you, Y/N."
"You're welcome. Now, let me sleep." I hung up on him.
It's safe to say that we watched each other grew up.
From being madly in love with random kids from school, to finally being responsible adults with jobs.He took over his father's convenience store.
As for me, I became a nurse at Miyagi Prefecture's finest hospital. He introduced me to two of the guys he coaches.
I believe their names were Ryūnosuke Tanaka, and Yū Nishinoya.
Those boys sure know how to have fun.I'm glad Keishin is getting along with this city.
Can't say the same for me. I still miss my small town.
