Chapter 4 ~ Steve's pity eyes

When I finally get back to the compound, I walk in and see the two gods, Loki and Thor, play with Liam, I just lean on the doorway, and watch them for a bit. 

"Hey Y/n, what are you doing?" I hear coming from behind, it's Steve. "Oh, hi Steve," I say as he walks up beside me. "So that's what you're doing," he says as he sees the gods play with Liam. I just nod and smile at him. 

"So how was your meet with John?" Steve asks, after a few minutes of silence. "Let's not take that here," I say as I don't want to talk about that around Liam, just because I hate John, doesn't mean Liam should. 

"Shall we take a walk then?" He asks and leads me outside. 

"Well, first of all, it was awful," I say, starting to tell him everything, from when I knocked on the door until I walked out and drove away again. 

"I'm sorry, Y/n," Steve says when I finish the story. "It's fine. It's been like this for months, me and him not being able to be alone in a room, without arguing, today was actually not as bad as usual, it was just" I say and take a deep breath, "Different," I finish, and Steve gives me these pity eyes, I've gotten a few pity eyes around here, from basically everyone, but his eyes, his are just special, his pity eyes aren't the kind that annoys you, his is more like the most adorable eyes you can ever imagine, and with a little extra.  

"Don't worry Steve, I'm fine now, and as long as Liam doesn't get hurt, everything will work out just fine." I smile at him. "Okay, but tell me if you ever need anything, okay?" He says, giving me a serious look. "I will Captain!" I say jokingly, taking my flat hand on the side of my head, so only my fingertips touch. Steve laughs a little but then takes on a serious look again, "I mean it, Y/n," He then says. "I know, thank you, Steve."

We start walking back to the compound, and when we get there, Liam comes running out to me. "Mom!" He yells as he jumps into my arms. "You missed me?" I say to him as I hug him. "A little bit I guess," he says, with his normal downtoned voice. "If you only missed me a little bit, then why did you come running? What did they do?" I ask him, giggling. "Well," He says as I put him down again. "Sam said if I ran out to you, he would buy me candy." He says pointing to Sam, who's now leaning on the doorway. I can't help but smile. "He did?" I walk over to Sam, with a smile on my face. 

"I may or may not have said that," Sam says as he shrugs his shoulders. I shake my head a little bit while smiling. Steve and Liam start to walk ahead of Sam and I

"Is it okay if I buy him candy?" Sam asks. I tell him that it is, and we catch up with Steve and Liam. 

Some hours later I sit with Liam, Steve, and Sam, watching TV. "Mom?" Liam then asks me, looking up at me. "Yes, Liam," I answer. "When can I see dad again." I freeze for a second, and Steve and Sam looks at me, I take a silent deep breath. "I don't know, but I can call him and find out," I tell Liam, giving him a smile. "Thank you, mom." He gives me a big smile, and I get up to call John. 

First, he doesn't pick up, and it automatically hangs up, but then the second after, he calls me back. "Sorry, I didn't pick up," He says as soon as I answer. 

"It's fine."

"So what's up?" He asks me. 

"Liam wanted to know when he could see you," I ask him.

"Oh, yes of course," He says with joy in his voice. "How about tomorrow? Maybe you can drop him off at my place? If that suits you?" He continues. 

"Yes, that would be great," I say.

We agree on me dropping Liam off at John's house at 10 am. As soon as we end the call, I go tell Liam, and his face lights up like a Christmas tree.

I am so sorry for not posting in a while, I've just been busy with school and family, I'll try to post and write as often as possible.
