Author's note: Hello! I'm so sorry for the unannounced hiatus. I had major writer's block, but now I'm back with another chapter! I hope you enjoy reading and thank you so much for the support!

(The story is something I made up completely based on Emma's new Monstrous Bird costume. The story occurs before the Oletus Manor plot when Norton had his own life as a coal miner I guess.)

The job of a coal miner isn't for the faint hearted. With an overbearing amount of physical work in the dark, humid tunnels of the mines, one would think the payment would be substantial. Unfortunately not, and money was tight for Mr. Norton Campbell.

So with some spare change in his pocket and his beloved magnets attached to his belt, the coal miner went on his way to his new job. The job description on the poster was a bit odd, but the payment was phenomenal. The wanted poster he found said this.

Monster keeper wanted

No experience required

Payment: 50 guineas/hour

Location: The alleyway between Vera's Perfume Shop and The bourbon Tavern

Sure, being sent to find someone in an alleyway sounded suspicious, but Norton was more focused on the 50 guineas per hour he would make. He could reinvent his life with that money, and he wasn't going to ignore an opportunity like that.

Finding the two stores, the coal miner walked into the alleyway, looking for his new boss. He was a bit confused to find no one there. Maybe the poster was a scam? Who puts their location in an alleyway anyways? Norton sighed deeply and turned, beginning to walk out.

Before he could get far, a gloved hand gripped his shoulder, stopping him in his tracks. Norton blinked a few times in confusion and turned around, finding himself face to face to a hooded figure. The figure's face was completely covered except for his magenta-colored eyes, seeming to hide a malicious intent.

"You're here for the poster, correct?" The figure asked, his voice deep and straight-forward. Norton furrowed his brows and nodded.

"I am...but the poster was a bit confusing. The pay is perfect, don't get me wrong, but what's a monster keeper?" he asked, crossing his arms. The hooded figure didn't respond, instead grabbing his arm and snapping his fingers. The man seemed to have the answer he needed. In the blink of an eye, the two were teleported in front of the large double doors of a manor. The man simply walked inside, completely calm after doing the impossible. Norton could only follow him, completely stunned into silence.

"You may call me Sorcerer. I'm in need of someone to keep watch over my monster while I do my work." the man stated, walking into his study. The room consisted of a large desk in front of a tall window with a purple sky, furniture scattered around the corners of the room. Messy and unorganized bookshelves lined the walls, piles and stacks of paper littering the floor and furniture. Whoever this man was, he had no cleaning skills.
