Chapter 1: Unfortunate Events
"Mina, dear. Didn't I tell you to clean your room? Why is it so messy?" Asked a young woman. "What? I cleaned it." Said a young child. The pink skin child scanned her room. The only discrepancy was the toys on the ground which she was actively using.
The woman stomped over and dragged the girl from the floor and to her feet. "Does this look clean!?" She shouted. "B-but I was play-"
"Don't talk back to me you little tramp! Now clean it up and go read a book." She ordered. "I already read one today, Mom!" Protested the girl. "Firstly, I am not your fucking mom. Stepmother, Mina, got it? Secondly, I said go read a god damn book before I lock you in the basement again." She threatened.
"Okay." The young girl put away her trinkets and grabbed a random book. "Good girl. You see, this wasn't so hard. Just listen to me, and everything will be alright. You'll grow up to be a nice young lady all thanks to me." Beamed the stepmother. "Yes... T-thanks mo-... Thank you, Ma'am."
"Mm."
6 years later
"Mina, what did I tell you!? You are supposed to keep quiet when guests are here!" Shouted her stepmother. "Ma'am, they asked me my age. I assumed following rule 3, always having respect, was the most likely course of action." Mina replied calmly looking at the floor. "Well, you thought wrong!" The stepmother swung her hand, connecting her palm to Mina's cheek. Already accustomed to it, Mina touched her cheek gingerly, caressing it to soothe the pain. "I'm sorry, Ma'am." She sobbed. "Damn right. Look at what you make me do!" She cursed.
"Permission to ascend to my sleeping quarters, ma'am." Requested the poor girl. "Granted. Just remember, always use proper wordings and ask for permission. Now go."
Mina bowed and turned then scampered. "Like a lady, dear." Mina slowed down and held her hands together at the stomach. "Better."
As soon as she cleared the stairs, she ran to her room and locked the door. She collapsed in her bed and began bawling her eyes out. "Why can't I just be normal? Why can't I make her happy? I'm trying so hard to please you, mother!" She cried into a pillow. "We're trying so hard." She said.
"We?"
"We."
"Is it your fault?"
"No, it's ours."
"Yeah. I guess."
"You mean, you may as well believe it."
"Sorry."
"No problem. We can get through this. I'll handle mother and you do everything else."
"Okay..."
5 years later
"So, you got into UA. Hmm. I'm pleased." Said the stepmother. "Really, thank you, ma'am. If it were not for your guidance, neither would I have gotten into my dream school nor would I be with the love of my life. Thank you for raising me." Mina bowed. "Mmm. Your father says hi by the way."
"Excellent. I assume he is doing well." Mina smiled. "He is." Suddenly Mina got a text. "Mother, Tekono-kun texted me. Can I go over to his house?"
"Why not."
One half-hour later
Mina opened a door, entering her boyfriend's home. "Tekono-kun! I'm here!" She called. A 17-year-old smoking a cigarette came from the stairs. "I texted you 30 minutes ago." He spoke softly. "Sorry, I had to get changed and you live-"
He shushed her and said, "Don't make it happen again. Anyway, I heard you got into UA." He noted getting close to her. "Y-yeah, are you happy?"
"Mm, yeah. Maybe we can... Celebrate." He cooed. "T-tekono... We agreed no more-"
"I KNOW WHAT WE AGREED ON!" He shouted. He brushed his hand through his brown hair. "How do I put this. I find myself in a unique position where I have stopped caring. Frankly, I'm beginning to think you don't love me." He sighed. "W-w-what? Babe, you can't think that, can you?"
"Your late, getting into a secure as fuck school and rejecting me. Sounds like you got another man." He proposed. "I-i don't! It's just that..."
He grabbed her by the throat and forced her against the kitchen table. "It's just nothing. I'll be gentle, okay?"
"Please... Not again..." She whimpered, tears flowing and her throat constructing. He released her, only to hold her close to his body. "You don't seem to understand. This is mine." He asserted while looking at her body. "No... We talk about this-" He slapped her so hard she fell to the ground. "I'm done talking."
He picked her up. "Tell your mom that you're staying over." He ordered. With tears, she reached for her bag. "Now!" He yelled, punching her in the stomach. As she winced from the pain, she briskly drew it from her bag and texted her mother, getting approval. "Done..." She sobbed. "You know the drill."
She reluctantly removed her clothes and bent over the kitchen table. "Good girl."
Yes. This was her life. For fifteen years. Fifteen years of constant abuse of every kind, constant forceful acts, guilt-tripping and among the worst, the never-ending cycle of forced feminity and a need to be proper in all that is good and true. She often found herself crying and sometimes talking to herself as if someone were there. She couldn't escape it. But... She did. Tekono was killed during a failed robbery and her stepmother suffered from a stroke and is now paralyzed. She felt free.
She thought that everything would be fine. Well, trauma waits for no man, nor does it easily depart.
2 years later
Present-day
In her second year of high school, Mina is the epitome of happiness. Her smile is a beacon of hope for all up and coming heroes and is even comparable to that of Ms Joke. Her past was wiped from the face of the earth yet deep down she was broken, defiled, humiliated and unable to be herself. She's not happy, nor is she a proper lady. She's just a girl. She's just a 16-year-old girl who can't express herself.
She's wasted too many tears.
15 years worth of tears.
