The only word that Xiao could process in his mind as he stared wide-eyed at the lifeless archon limp on the grass was shit. It was an ordinary day for the lone Adeptus, slaying Hilichurls and protecting the nation of contracts—one of his only places where he feels like home. Do you wonder what his other home was? The lovely god of freedom himself. Once he heard the gentle melody of the Dihua flute, Xiao knew that this was fate. The thing he didn't know was that the wind always changes. And sometimes it goes in the wrong direction. It can be a gentle breeze, and then the next thing you know it twirls into a violent tornado.
So you can imagine how traumatized he must've felt when he accidentally stabbed straight into the heart of Venti, who sandwiched himself in between the yaksha and a Mitachurl who was charging up its axe. Even if he stabbed the Mitachurl as well, he didn't give a fuck. He just killed Venti.
Barbatos.
Mondstadt's adored god.
His happiness.
Lying in front of him.
Lifeless.
And the last goddam words that came out of the bard was nothing. Xiao couldn't breathe. He hasn't felt so bundled up in a copious amount of anger for so, so long. And despair. He wanted to scream. But it didn't come out. He had so many other things to think about. But all those other things included venti. Venti, venti, venti. But he's dead. He's not here anymore. So now, it's just xiao and the loud, vicious whistles of the wind. And he finally screamed along with it.
Oh, what a sight.
The quiet and careless adepti, screaming his heart out as he clutched onto the once warm and melodic body—now a cold and quiet symphony.
Author note: hihi! wow, it's my very first chapter for my first book- I can't come up with any good titles huhu (╥﹏╥) but uh I hope this chapter was at least enjoyable to read.
