Luna POV
" Go Luna!" I hear the Jam and Roller team cheer. My pink and yellow skates stir to a stop as I prepare for the star trick in my presentation for the competition. The salchow. Extremely hard trick to pull off. But I know I'm ready.
I start to rotate in circles, preparing the friction and energy for my jump. I block the ear- splitting screams of encouragement. Concentration is essential. Finally, I reach that area of the rink I aim to reach and with a deep breath, I take off to the air, propelled from the backward inside edge of my skate.
I spin, arms crossed against my chest. The noise from the audience fades out.I feel myself turn twice, and I place all of my short term concentration on landing.
My heart beats out of my chest as the milliseconds it takes me to land continues to feel like years. And escaped hair whips my face, and my feet get nearer and nearer to the ground. Now I feel like it is only me and skating.
CLICK!
My skates make a clicking sound as they touch the ground. The backward outside edge of my skate comes in contact with the ground first. The way you land is on the other skate, so I gracefully perfect the switch.
The noise zooms back in. The first noise I register is cheering louder than before. But even in the screams, the loudest are standing by the rink entrance. Ambar and Simon. Simon's naturally loud cheers and Ambar's pure screaming can be heard through the crowd. Ambar's arms are clinging around his neck, with Simon's hands around her waist. I think they were honestly more nervous than me.
I have a huge grin due to my success, and I finish my routine. It is a jump, a few twists and turns, but I finish okay. I wasn't one to judge my chances of winning with overconfidence, so I didn't count myself the winner yet.
I stand with my body turned toward the back, hands on my hips, and head turned forward. The perfect ending for a complicated routine. I take my cue and leave the rink, so the announcer can come back on.
I skate happily to the exit, and as soon as I am off the competition rink, Ambar pulls away from Simon ( which I know is extremely hard for her to do) and tackles me into a crushing hug. " Oh my god! Primita! You were incredible!" She screams. I laugh but quickly stop due to blood circulation slowing down due to her hug.
" I wasn't that good." I argue, but I am smiling the entire time. " Ambar's right. You were amazing." Simon's grinning from ear to ear. " Well, you agree with everything she says." I roll my eyes mockingly. Simon gives me a sheepish smile because he knows I'm right.
Ambar puts her arm around Simon again and tells me, " Well, Matteo does the exact same thing with you. It's the boys' job." I blush, but I don't correct her.
" I'm really sorry he couldn't make it." Simon says sympathetically. " It's fine. He's busy, and I completely understand. The fact that he even has time to call me astounds me." I answer good- naturally.
I don't want Simon to think that my joy is breaking just because Matteo isn't here. Because honestly, I'm fine. Matteo's music career doesn't bother me, because it gives me a reason to advance my skating career. I just think people don't get that.
Matteo has messaged me eighty- four times and called me sixteen times to apologize for not being able to be there. I already told him it was fine, but I think he thinks I'm lying.
PING! Ambar takes my phone from her pocket. I had asked her to hold it for me while I skated. She passes me the phone, now in conversation with Delfi and Jazmin, who broadcasted my presentation for the challenge to all their followers.
