"How are we gonna get out?" Harry asked Angel. "There's so many setbacks now; we also need the key to our cages to get out."
"I'll keep an eye on the pixie who comes in to let us out, and see which keys open our cages. When it's not looking, I'll take the keys, slip it away, and wait until tomorrow to break us all out during the night," Angel replied.
"Wow, that's some pretty quick planning," Harry whispered to her.
Angel shrugged. "Comes with having been a soldier, spy, and assassin at one point," she whispered right back.
And that's exactly what Angel did. When morning came, Harry watched Angel watch the pixie use its keys to open the cages, and get everyone out. While the seven prisoners walked behind the pixie silently, Angel made sure to be in front. She stole their keys and slipped them in her pocket.
Once again, the group spent the whole day cooking up a feast for the pixies, while the pixies yelled and screeched and fought with each other like a bunch of maniacs. At one point, Maya got so angry that she screamed, "SHUT UP!" so loud people across the world would probably hear it as a whisper. The pixies silenced for a moment, then went back to their loud ways. Maya groaned, but went on with her duties.
The same pixie as last time came in to check on all of the exhausted people, and eventually left. Everyone eventually were free to leave for the night, and the soldiers lay awake in their cages, terrified.
"Don't worry, guys. We won't have to worry about our duties tomorrow," Angel said.
"What do you mean?" Alex asked her, sitting up.
"She stole the keys to our cages, and the key to get outside. We planned this escape yesterday; we should start as soon as possible," Harry answered, who was already sitting up.
Everyone gave an almost silent cheer.
Angel took a key from her pocket, and, after about two minutes of silent struggles, she got her door open from the inside. It swung open, and she flew onto the perch in front of Alex's. She quickly unlocked his door, and he was free. Angel went to work on Lucy's door while Alex got to work on Harry's. This cycle continued until everyone was free.
The group knew there were security cameras, so they quickly ran out of their room. Everyone just followed Angel.
"Where are we running to?" Harry asked her.
"To unlock the other prisoners' doors, of course! All of us don't belong here." she replied. Harry nodded along, but Derek and Maya had some different opinions.
"Hold up, we're saving everyone else? I thought we were getting to the exit!" Maya whisper-screeched.
"Well, we're saving as many people as we can. And of course we're not getting to the exit immediately, it's in the window in our prison thing; that's the key I stole," Angel whisper-hissed.
"Let's take a vote," Derek said. "Who wants to save ourselves and run, and who wants to save as many people as possible here? People who say we save ourselves and run, raise your hand."
Derek and Maya raised their hands. They groaned in unison when they realized no one else was doing it.
The group kept running. Angel snuck up to a sleeping pixie guard and stole all the keys on its belt, then bolted into the room, the soldiers following not too far behind her. The entire group unlocked tons of doors together; once a child was free, they helped too. This cycle repeated until there was only five rooms of prisoners left; by now, there was a steady rampage of people trying to get to the next room. There were even more than three dragons in the mix!
Suddenly, an alarm started blaring. All of the pixie guards bolted awake, and screeched in horror when they saw the large crowd of prisoners escaping.
"Shoot! I have the key to a window in our room, everyone get on a dragon and we can fly there! It's the last one down the hall!" Angel yelled. Everyone quickly followed her instructions, and soon everyone was getting to the last room. The dragons flew everyone inside, and Alex and Harry's dragons were almost out the window when the two boys told them to pause. Angel had stopped flying; she was hovering in midair right in front of the room door; as if in a trance.
"Angel, what the heck are you doing?! Let's get out of here! Are you stuck?" Alex screamed at her.
"I'm okay!" Angel said from her hovering position. "You guys go on without me, I'm staying back here!"
"Why? This is our chance to escape!" Harry yelled.
"Boys, I've seen civilizations rise and fall, my enemies and friends die, my rulers die. I'm old, and I know that. I also know that if I stay here, the pixies will kill me out of rage. I've lived a long and adventurous life; it's time for it to end! Leave without me!" she screamed.
The two boys paused for a moment.
"Okay," Alex yelled. "If that's really what you want, we'll let you stay back here,"
"One more thing!" Angel screeched. "Stay away from labs!"
The boys heard her, but there was no time to think about her odd warning. The pixies were coming. They ordered their dragons to keep going, and they followed the swarm of people into the air.
They were free from the pixies once again.
