It was pretty silent when Tubbo walked up the steep, metal stairs to his apartment. And pretty cold for the fall season, too.
It was always silent, with the occasional sounds of fighting and parties from his neighbors. He was used to it, living in a city- you're not going to find peace very easily. The brunette reached into his jean pockets, pulling out the familiar metal keys. He fumbled to shove the keys inside. His fingers probably were going to fall of any second. Shush, let him be dramatic. The door unlocked with a faint click, and he definitely pretty shocked when he heard the sound of a yelp and claws scattering acrose the hardwood floor as he opened the door. Considering he doesn't have any pets...
Fear froze Tubbo in place, had someone broke into his apartment? No. The noises made wasn't human. Maybe an animal? Did he seriously have to call animal control? The noises sounded a bit heavy. Tubbo couldn't think of any large animals that lived nearby. Especially one with claws. Most importantly, was it dangerous? Though it may have scurried away in fear, animals can become aggressive if they need to.
Tubbo held his breath and cautiously walked into his apartment, which was gratefully much warmer than the cold outside. He closed the door to a crack behind him incase whatever it is tried to run but also incase he was the one that needed to make a run for it. Riskfully, the boy stepped in further to get a better look. There was some strange cat-like chirping with every step he took. Everytime he stopped, the chirping stopped.
Well shit. Tubbo looked around the room, hoping to find the source of the noise. The apartment seemed normal- everything in its place, except for a few pens scattered across the hardwood desk in the corner and the pillows on the couch was disorganized as if someone had gone on it. He could feel eyes staring at him, but couldn't see them. "Okay..." Tubbo whispered, walking up to the soft blue couch and grabbing the matching pillows. "It's okay." He didn't know if he was comforting himself or the creature. With shaky hands, the brunette put the pillows back where they belong, he went to the desk, noticing that a few papers were missing from his notebook and there was a mark on the surface as if someone dropped a pen.
The chirping grew louder and more aggressive, turning into a low rumbling growl. Tubbo paused, the sweat of anxiety dripped down his neck. The creature right there under his desk. He could just reach down and touch it. If he had the guts, of course. It was still softly growling at him; A warning to get away. Tubbo held his hands up in the air and backed away slowly, hoping to catch a glimpse of the thing under his desk, but the place was too dark and the creature was most likely pressed against the wall. The creature stopped growling, almost seeming to sigh. Tubbo carefully and slowly fished his phone out of his pocket, not wanting to set the creature off with sudden movements. All he had to do was call animal control, wait outside, and they'll take care of it. After all, the thing just sounded like a big cat. Maybe a bobcat or some other wildcat accidentally found it's way to his apartment in the city?
He dialed the number to animal control and put the phone against his ear, listening to the tone of the ringing. Almost immediately, the phone was answered. "Animal control, this is Lizzy- how may I help?" The creature started growling again and there was very light thumping. Tubbo manged to catch a glimpse of a thin, black and white something swing out and back in. A tail? Tubbo paused for a moment, the lady behind the phone sounding worried; "Hello? Is anyone there? This is Lizzy from animal control, are you okay?"
Tubbo shook his head, "Right, right. Um." He stiffly sat on the couch, it felt like it swallowed him more than usual. But he made sure to not taking his eyes off from his desk. This is what he's supposed to do, right? Be calm and not show fear? "I came into my apartment a couple minutes ago and I think there might be a wildcat of some sort under my desk?"
"Okay did you see what it looked like?"
"No... I only saw something black and white, looked like a tail."
The creature was still growling, but at this point it didn't seem like it was gonna do anything. Lizzy hummed, "Okay- well I will send over a team. Can you stay on the phone and keep me updated in case the animal makes any moves?"
"Yeah, yeah." Tubbo said, daring a quick glace at the door. The creature had gone silent, probably tired of the useless growling, Tubbo looked back at the desk, a sudden wave of fear and sadness ran through him. What if... "Can... Can I ask you a question..?"
"Of course. What's the matter?"
Tubbo frowned, "Is it going to be okay? Are y'all... Going to hurt it?" He had heard many horrible stories of animal control killing innocent and scared animals.
"Oh!" Lizzy said, sounding warm and kind. "It's gonna be okay, all animals we capture we take to a sanctuary so it's taken care of properly, we make sure they have the best lives. Sometimes if the animal is too feral, we set them back into the wild where they belong after caring for any injuries."
Tubbo sighed in relief, this creature was clearly terrified and he would've hated for it to be taken somewhere horrible or killed for no reason. There was silence for a moment, the only sounds were the soft thumping of the creatures tail and the tik of the grandfather clock next to Tubbo's TV. Lizzy's voice nearly made him jump out of his skin.
"Are you still there, sir? What is the animal doing right now?"
Tubbo placed a hand over his pounding heart, feeling the hard thumps. "Yeah, sorry. Um it's just thumping it's tail, I think? At least that's what it sounds like."
