If you asked Dream how he got into this situation he'd say two things.
His friends are assholes.
And the universe hates him.
That is the only way he can explain how he is here, on the football field, in a bright lime green cheer uniform.
But he's getting ahead of himself.
See it had been a peaceful day, birds chirping, the sun shining brightly, and Dream had actually managed to get nine hours of sleep last night! (A quest he thought impossible as a Junior).
So when lunchtime rolled around Dream felt like he was on cloud nine.
His mood even withstood his two best friends' pointless bickering. And when they tried to drag him into another petty argument, he stayed positive and calmly rejected the offer to get involved.
Everything spiraled from there.
The first thing that cursed his happiness was when his eyes landed on a certain pinkette a few tables away.
The gorgeous, * violent coughing *, the person Dream was staring at looked to be being shouted at by a loud blonde child. Dream couldn't help the lopsided smile that grew on his face as he watched the pinkette, Technoblade the most amazing, incredible, stunning man he had ever had the pleasure of laying his eyes on , stared deadpan as Tommy and Wilbur seemed to get into a screaming match.
Now usually seeing Technoblade was the highlight of his day. Sure he wouldn't be able to focus very well for a few hours (and he was unresponsive for a whole day after Techno asked him a question) but it was always worth it. No, the problem was that tragically his friends had taken that moment to try and drag him into another argument. It only took one look at his face for Sapnap to start cackling and for George to start smirking.
"Whatcha looking at?" George asked, raising an eyebrow. Amusement was clear in his voice.
"Wha-huh?" Dream eloquently responded snapping out of his Techno-induced daze.
"Oh my god!" Sapnap exclaimed struggling to breathe from how hard he was laughing.
"Dream you're making googly eyes across the cafeteria," George stated, obviously trying to hold back his laughter.
"I am not!" Dream shouted, his face turning a vibrant shade of pink.
"Oh-Dude you should see your face!" Sapnap was gasping at this point.
Dream just groaned and put his head on the table.
"You should just go talk to him." George finally let out a few chuckles.
Dream mumbled into the table.
"Pardon?" George questioned.
Dream lifted his head a sliver to send a glare in both of his friend's directions.
"I said," He started, lifting his head fully to look George in the eyes, "That he wouldn't even talk to me if I tried."
"You two talk like every week?" George asked confusedly.
"That's different." Dream did not pout when he said that. Whoever told you that is a liar and probably Sapnap.
"How so?"
"Because! We only talk to like challenge each other and stuff like that. Rival things." Dream groaned as he dropped his head back onto the table, and put his arms around his head to block out the cruel world.
"I still don't see how that makes sense."
"George I don't think he could have a conversation with Technoblade if his life depended on it." Sapnap piped up from the side, his laughter finally ceasing."Really?"
"George, look at him. He's hiding in his arms like a first-grader." Sapnap deadpanned.
"Oh. Yeah, you have a point." George conceded.
Now Dream would like to think he is intelligent (his grades can back that up). He also likes to think he knows when and when not to engage in pointless things. But he is but a man. A competitive man at that. So when his friends challenged his honor (they didn't he's just dramatic) he felt like he had to do something.
Dream suddenly straightened to his full sitting height, surprising his friends.
"I can totally talk to Techno whenever I want." Dream stated competitiveness coursing through him.
George just raised a skeptical eyebrow but Sapnap narrowed his eyes with a smirk.
"You can't." Sapnap challenged.
Dream narrowed his eyes, "I can."
"Cannot."
"Can."
"Cannot."
"Can!" Dream stood up.
"Cannot!" Sapnap stood up.
"CAN!" Dream slammed his hands on the table.
"CANNOT!" Sapnap moved closer to Dream across the table.
"Both of you shut up and sit down everyone's looking at us." They both snapped back to reality at George's command.
They both at least had the decency to look a little sheepish as they sat back down but that didn't stop the competition now started.
After they settled back down the staring contest began. They were about 20 seconds in when George finally spoke up.
"Both of you are idiots. This is solving nothing."
Neither dared to move. They couldn't lose.
George just sighed and smacked both of their faces.
"Hey!"
"What hell man!" Two angry voices shouted in unison.
"Now are you two going to listen?" George asked, crossing his arms.
They both pouted but nodded nonetheless.
"Good. There has to be an easier way to find which one of you is right."
They all sat in contemplative silence for a moment before Sapnap spoke.
"Why don't we make a bet?"
The other two just stared at him.
"What kind of bet?" Dream inquired.
"To see if you can talk to Techno or not." Sapnap clarified.
"What would the bet entail?" George questioned.
"If Dream can ask Techno to go out to ice cream with him before Friday I will babysit Drista for a whole day."
"And if you win?"
A mischievous grin had spread across Sapnap's face, "Dream has to go to Techno's football game dressed as a cheerleader."
Now if Dream had any self-preservation skills he would have backed out here. Taken the teasing and moved on with his life as a sad simp. But he is really competitive and there was no way he was going to let Sapnap win.
"Deal."
"You two are idiots."
"Shut up George."
While his friends got into another fight Dream started making a plan.
