Two

♫~ April ~♫

“Jackass!” I yelled to the guy that almost hit me with his car. I was trying to catch the traffic light green so I started to run with the coffees for her in my hands, on high heels. Yea… I’m smart what can I say.  It’s a good thing insurance could pay me hospitalization.

I was in front of the building, and in five minutes I would be upstairs hoping of course “Drama Queen” wouldn’t be there.

I was so, so close… if I could only make it without spilling the coffee-

“Ughhhh” I said while I tripped and spilled the coffees on Stewart, the receptionist that kind of stood in my way.

“April! Oh come on! Serious?!”

“Sorry” I said laughing. It was just too damn funny.

“Oh my god I wanted to ask Cherry on a date today, but you ruined it!” What? Cherry? Hugh’s secretary? Yeah sure.

“She already considers you a pig, why lie to her?” I asked choking for air.

Stewart growled and then walked away saying something that didn’t sound very complementary.

Oh no… the coffee. Damn. Why do you hate me Lord?

Okay…think!

I’m thinking… thinking…still thinking…la la la… Ugh I don’t have any idea.

But just then I saw Cherry a couple meters away with a cup of coffee in her hands. I ran to her, and took the coffee cup out of her hands before she even saw me coming.

“Hey!”

“Sorry but I need this if I want to keep my job!!” I said while I ran away with her coffee to the elevator.

When the elevator doors closed I caught a glimpse of something dark entering the room right in that moment.

Thank you, thank you, thank you God. I succeeded. I reached my goal. Alleluia.

“Stewart, what happened to your shirt?” I asked unpleased.

“Well, I-“

“I don’t care what happened, but please we are professional, can we please look like ones too? Or is it too hard? You can always tell me if you think you can’t …”

“No, no! I can handle I just had a bad morning that’s all. Sorry, won’t happen again” he said a little nervous. Why, I don’t understand. Oh well.

“It better” I said and wanted to continue with another ultimatum but got caught into something else. “Hey you, the slutty one over there, we’re at work for god’s god sake, but if you want to show your ass around here do it at least when and where I can’t see you.” I told to some blonde secretary near me wearing something that you could call “the shortest skirt that could exist and still look a little decent”. I think her name was Channel or something like that. Hugh’s secretary. Why God did he always had to pick slutty ones type?

Anyway, I said no more and continued my way towards my office.

When I entered the elevator all the people inside it got out, so I remained alone. Cool.

After a minute the elevator doors opened again revealing in front of my eyes a big room full of office desks and people…doing nothing.  What the…?

They all looked at me while I stepped out of the elevator, and the sound of my heels became the only sound in the room for a couple seconds.  I ignored what I just saw, just because they got back to work at least when they saw me.

That girl, April, waited for me in my office, with a cup of coffee on the desk. At least someone did her job today.

She was tall and neither skinny nor fat. I was more curvy than her and had a caramel skin, while she was white but tanned. Her hair was curly, just as mine, but not as my dark golden curls. She was a little blondish, but not stupid. I knew that.

“It’s everything settled?” I asked while I took a seat at my desk and grabbed the coffee in one hand.

“Yeah, the meeting with Ivan it’s settled for 12 pm and you have some other meeting with Cristine half hour after that.”

“Okay” I answered. “You can go now.”

♫~ April ~♫

“You can go now”, she said like I was some kind of slave or pet.

I turned my back to her then started to almost run toward the door, just to get out of there.

“April.” She said on a pissed-off tone. Damn, what does she wanted? I wasn’t a secretary, I was a journalist, even though she wouldn’t send me on field yet.

“Yeah?”

“Why is my coffee cold if I may ask you?”

Shit.

“Um…because I kind of got here earlier and well… you know” I lied.

After a few silent seconds she answered me.

“Fine, I’ll accept your excuse this time, but tomorrow the coffee better be hot.”

“Of course, boss” I said and then left her office before she could order me to do anything else.
