"Come on, boys. It's time to go back home." Shawn held the back door open as he waited for the dogs to jump in.
"I don't wanna go," Camila whined as she reluctantly got into the passenger's side of the car and slumped against the seat.
"I know, baby." Shawn helped Eugene up into the back of the car and made sure the other dogs were settled before shutting the door and getting in the driver's seat and starting the car. "If it makes you feel better, when we get home we get to move in together." That made Camila light up and squeal with excitement. She grabbed his hand and laid her head on his arm.
"I can't wait to live with you."
"And don't think I forgot about that tattoo idea! I've already got a great idea for yours."
"Fuck. I did kind of forget about that."
"I knew you would!" he laughed. "Do you wanna stop and get breakfast?"
"Sure. Just something quick so we can keep driving." They ended up stopping by a local deli about thirty minutes outside of Hendersonville. Shawn went in to get two bagel breakfast sandwiches and two coffees to go while Camila stayed in the car with the dogs. Eugene was curled up and laying on top of Thunder and Camila couldn't help but pull out her phone and snap a picture of her cute little fur-babies to post on her Instagram story. Shawn hadn't even come back out with their breakfast yet when she got a notification that Bristol had replied to her story.
The boys!!! They're so cute I miss them
Camila looked at the message and despite the fact that the message itself was sweet she couldn't help but feel immediately angry remembering how her best friend had lied to her. As much as she hated the idea of confronting Bristol about something that had happened so long ago she also knew she couldn't just pretend she didn't know that she had lied to her.
"Guess who's hot and considerate?" Shawn boasted as he got back into the car with their breakfast in hand. "Spoiler alert: it's me. They had double chocolate muffins in there and since I know they're your favorite I may have picked one up for you." He handed her the brown paper bag with the muffin and her breakfast sandwich. "To be completely transparent, though, I did take a small bite. Consider it a tax." He looked over at her and could tell her mood had changed in the short time that he was in the deli. "Hey...you okay?" Camila shrugged.
"Just thinking about the Bristol thing again," she sighed as she shook her head. "It's dumb."
"It's not dumb. You're allowed to be upset about it." He took a sip of his coffee before setting it down into the cup holder. "Maybe you two can sit down and talk about when we get back to Miami."
"We're gonna have to," she lamented. "I don't wanna think about it anymore. Distract me." Without giving a second thought or even bothering to look over at his girlfriend, he reached his hand over and began unbuttoning her denim shorts. "Hey!" she laughed as she swatted his hand away. "I didn't mean like that!"
"Alright, alright!" He lifted his hands in innocence. "Here—" He handed his girlfriend his phone. "You can control the tunes." Camila let out a sigh of relief.
"That works for me." She connected his phone to the Bluetooth before finding and playing Stickwitu by The Pussycat Dolls, reaching forward to turn up the volume. Knowing exactly how to cheer up his girlfriend, Shawn began dramatically singing along with the song at the top of his lungs. Camila was laughing so hard she had to struggle to not spit out the sip of coffee she had just taken.
They continued their road trip while Camila continued to control the music — most of which ended up being early 2000's rap music. Since they decided to leave their little cabin in Hendersonville somewhat early in the morning, they'd be able to make it back to Miami by evening. They had stopped about halfway at a coffee shop in Jacksonville so Shawn could refuel and Camila could take a pee break. When she stepped out of the public bathroom she saw her tall boyfriend leaning against the wall of the coffee shop with his cell phone pressed to his ear.
