We Are Bulletproof

Chapter One

Jang Nan POV
I counted my money again. I was so close to gathering the amount I needed! Hopefully, I'll have the amount I need next year. Then, Bye-bye Canada and HELLOOOO Korea! I would finally get to see my Bangtan Boys. My friend Areum and I have been saving up money to go to Korea and see a BTS concert live. But we are still short of money. Ok mind, sloooooow down. Stop with the BTS this, BTS that. Sadly not everyone around me likes BTS. That includes my brother, Tae Ho. He has officially banned me from ALL K-pop in the car. Number one on his list is BTS. I mean, WHAT?!? Am I rambling again? Sorry, Sorry! I'll get back on track. Where was I again?

Oh, did I mention where I'm going? I'm going to visit my Auntie An who lives in the States. I'm going with my mom, dad and brother, Tae Ho. We are going there at night because my dad had a say shift and we didn't want to leave the next day. So night trip for us! Had we left during the day, I would be enjoying the trip because then I would be able to listen to music or read or enjoy looking out the window and seeing objects and landscapes. But NOOOOO, I have to miss the beautiful landscape. The rolling meadows with the sunshine reflecting off the water creating a sparkling effect. I miss the forests of orange, yellow and red. Forests that make your heart stop beating at the glorious colours. I wish I could see it but all I see is the night sky wrapping around me with the light reflection of the moon. I shouldn't be complaining because, to be honest, the night sky with the reflection of the moon on the water is so beautiful. I guess it took me to rant about missing ou on the day to look at what I'm seeing now and enjoy the night sky. Tae Ho and my mom have already asleep and my dad was busy choosing a radio station to help keep him awake.

Ring. Ring.

I look at the caller ID and see Grandma. Grandma is my nickname for my best friend, Areum. She's like a grandma. She always has those candies that Grandma carries around and hands them out to kids. She's the number one babysitter on most parents' phones. She has a vintage style. I mean you should see her room!

"Hey, Areum! What's up? Why aren't you sleeping? Did you see what time it is? It's already 4AM! Go to bed." I say as I pick up the phone.

"Um. What do you mean by, 'you should be sleeping.' Do you hear yourself? It's like you became an alien and you can stay up at night. Why should I be sleep when you aren't?!?"

"Well..." She does have a point. "Right. Don't make my mind mix up, Areum. You know I have a hard time sleeping on car trips. You call yourself a my best friend and don't even know that basic information. Great friend I have, right?"

"What do you mean? YOU should know that I ALWAYS wake up early because I take a long time to get ready! YOU, of all people, that calls yourself my friend, should know how LOOOONG it takes me to myself into the beautiful doll that I am. PLUS, I just woke up so how am I supposed to remember that you went on a trip, this early in the morning? I haven't even had my coffee yet and you start my day by yelling at me."

"Ooh, sorry I forgot how long it takes you to get ready in the morning, GRANDMA." I stretched out as long as possible the latter word. Make it stand out from the rest of my sentence. I'm sure she'll get the hint.

"HEY! Don't you dare bring in..."

"ALSO, since you forgot that I'm on a trip, then why did you call me this early in the morning? You purposely are bothering me this early in the morning. Don't you..."

"Ugly potato, could you please shut your mouth." Tae Ho mumbled to me. His pillow was up against the car door with his feet curled up underneath. His eyes didn't even open once. "Some of us are actually trying to sleep."

Apparently, I'm not important. What. Ever.
