Steven and I were hanging out one day when he asked the question I knew he was going to ask. "What happened to your dad". I told him about how I loved him and how we were playmates and about the letter.
"What's in the letter" he asked
"I don't know"
"Why not" he asked curiously
"I never read it"
"WHAT!!!!!!! Why not" he said shocked
"Because I'm mad at him"
"I can't believe I have a crush on a girl who won't read a letter that her dad wrote. Aren't you a little curious?"
The word crush lingered in my head for a while. I CAN'T BELIEVE SOMEONE LIKES ME!!!!!!!!!! I am so happy.
"Well one day I'm going to read it"
We started to study for our geometry finals when my mom came home. My mom never met Steven and I didn't want her to. When she came in the house she was too drunk to notice anything, she fell down the stairs and didn't let me help her up. Steven didn't feel comfortable so he decided to leave. When he left, I thought about what he said about the letter so I went upstairs and looked at the envelope. I am seventeen and still scared for 11 years, but this day I built enough courage to open the letter. I was astonished to what it said:
Dear Elizabeth,
I'm not as mean as you think I am, I just didn't want to hurt you anymore. While you were at practice your mother and I got in a huge fight (thats why you found the TV broken) about what will happen when you die, and your mother won. I was so mad at her for wanting you cremated because I don't want my dead daughter on my nightstand everyday of my life giving me guilt for not doing my best to keep you alive. I loved you and still do to this day no matter what happens. I drove away to California and got remarried but sometimes miss your mother. I hope you can visit me when you get older and here is my address: 34512 Greenshire St, San Francisco. I know you live in Florida and its a long drive but I hope to see you soon. I love you Elizabeth, remember that.
Love Dad
