Moving day

I wanted to get going sooner but my father had slept in late. The night before my big day he had been out drinking booze and placing impossible bets on his poker games. I always knew he was not the most responsible parent, but I never knew why he always choose vodka over his own daughter. I'd had my sip or two of alchohal and i don't understand how its addicting. The taste is bitter, frankley one of the worst things i've had the pleasure of swallowing. Anyhow on my first day at school, orientation we we're late. Just like every year.

"Hello" said a short plump woman to my father and I. " Welcome to Selenia Rellisen Academy for the youth! I am headmaster
Mareberry!" Her cheerful tone was exhausting after about 5 seconds.
But still I kindly introduced myself, "I'm Clai. Today is my first day here."
"I knew we had new student this semester! Come along I will get someone to take you to you're dorm and your father and I will discuss some things."
"Wonderful," I said under my breath. I was introduced to this girl with long black hair and busy eyebrows. She looked as if she hadn't slept in a week but still stood out as one of the most beautiful people I've ever met. She never said her name but I assumed it was something like Natalia or Esme. Classy yet poetic, just like her.
"Are you gonna come in or what?" I'd been lost in a day dream and disconnected from this reality.
"Oh yes." My hand was trembling. I don't normally get intimitated by petty popular girls but she was just so perfect and I could tell she was well liked. I made a wrong impression so early on, ended a friendship before it started. She showed me to a room. It was cold with stone walls on one side. The other was filled with band posters you couldn't even imagine that there was a wall beneath it all.
"Feel free to decorate everything. I don't mind if you put stuff up on my side, I'd actually prefer if I got a little room makeover."
"Oh okay." This super cool girl was my doormate? Oh no. I wasn't cool like her, my hair is curly and a mess while her's is long and slick. She spoke with ease and had a way with words. I'm akward and constantly confuse words with other words.
" Uh are you alright?" She said pulling me out of another trance I fell into.
"What's your name?" I said suddenly and a little harshley. I didn't mean to come off as rude but the question was burning me alive, I needed to know.
    "Harley. You?"
I'd been so side tracked I forgot to tell her my name. God, I can be so hypocritical sometimes. " It's Clai. And Harley is a really unique name. I'm quite fond of it." I tried to sound as intelligent as I could.
"My dad had a friend at his country club named Harley Davidson. I guess they we're close enough that he'd want to name me after him. Do you have a story behind your name?"
I was flabbergahasted that this girl had a connection to Harley Davidson! I didn't knoe anything about my name so I came up with something on the spot. " Well my mother is a famous artist. She worked with all mediums, watercolor, chalk, pencil, acrylic. But nothing compared to how much she loved Clay. So my parents adapted the spelling to C - L - A - I. " I know that wasn't technically true but I wish it was. Its still shocking that my mother ran away for a older man and left my father and I with nothing. I mean we didn't even have enough money for regular private school. After years of academic success in public school I got a scholarship to a rich boarding school. Otherwise I'd still have peers who think classy is a job at the mall.
"Woah. What's your mom's name? Art is kinda my thing, maybe i've heard of her!" Harley said with enthusisem.
"Her name is Cecilia Bernie." See that is true, but her mother wasn't an artist. She worked as a waitress for years then went and became an accsesory for expired meat. " She just marks all of her art with a c though. So maybe you've see  that." I was shakey in the voice. I really hope Harley believed my obnoxious lie.
" I haven't heard of your mom. But I'll do some research later on and look up her work. It's been like 5 minutes why don't you begin unpacking and I will go and find headmaster. I'm sure she'd love to talk to you!" Maybe I hadn't made a bad impression, but I did start the new chapter of my life with a lie. Oh god I hope no-one finds out.
