AidanThe mating ball was a bust, I couldn't find the scent anywhere. Maybe Ryan was right, I'm grasping at straws, wanting something so bad I'm just making it up. I want to leave, leave behind my heartache. I look for Ryan, but as I begin to walk towards the exit, Alpha Kain stops me,
'Excuse me, Alpha, but I would like a word in private.' Sighing internally at the fact I have to drag my exit out I agree.
We walk through the Alphas quarters, I look in concern at his chosen décor. The horrifying silver statues lined the halls, each in various states of pain, each very naked. They were haunting. But who am I to judge a hurt man's design choices?
'Uh, interesting statues Kain.' I comment.
'Ah, thank you Alpha, I do take great pride in them.' He replies.
As we near his office I see an empty plinth, the inscription called it "Aria".
'What happened to this one?' I enquire curiously.'Oh Aria? Someone broke it, but it shouldn't be too long to return its spot. Unless the guy stays quiet.'
I frowned slightly at his strange statement but brush it off, putting it down to the loss of his mate.'So where to your office?' I ask in hopes of abandoning this subject and the creepy statues.
'Of course Alpha, right this way.' I breathe a sigh of relief as he reaches his office and closes the door, blocking out the unnerving figures from my gaze, and theirs from mine.
Kain takes up the office chair and I take the opposite. He takes a big breath of air as if steadying himself for this conversation.
'Alpha Aiden, I would like to apply for the position of head warrior pack, I know Blood Moon currently holds this position but I feel they have reached their potential and we have a lot more to offer.'
I was not surprised at his request, Silver Lake has always come up short when compared to Blood Moon but after all Kain work these years they may surpass my head warrior pack.'Ok Kain, I accept your request and will alert Blood Moon of your challenge, it will be held within the month, do you have your request form?'
'Yes of course Alpha.' I watch Kain rustle through his files looking for the form.
'I left them in my room if you would excuse me, sir.'
'I'm on my way out anyway, I'll follow you and pick them up on the way.'
'As you wish Alpha.'We return to the hallway of creepy artifacts, their faces still boring into mine, when we reach Kains room I'm thankful for the thin barrier between me and them, but I can still feel their metallic gazes. As I wait for Kain to retrieve the forms I lean against a bare wall, feeling the wall panel shift slightly under my weight, I push harder.
'What the hell?' I exclaim as the wall turns further in.
As I turn the fake wall my curiosity peaks, the other side replaces its former along with a silver cage attached to the trim. My nostrils curl in on themselves at the stretch radiating from the wall. Blood and silver line it, varying from fresh to what I assume is years old.
'What the fuck Kain?' I growl as I turn around looking for the demented man. I find him gone, no scent leading to where he went. I go to leave the room in the hopes of hunting the bastard down when a small figure catches my eye. I walk closer to the cage, and there, curled in a small ball, lays a small, naked girl. The cuts and silver marring her skin are the cause of the bloodstains on the wall.
I mind link Ryan, ordering him to find Kain and bring our men to his room. Turning my attention back to the bloodied girl, I open her cage, the silver burning my hands, and strangely I find it unlocked and the girl conscious. She doesn't look at me, rather through me, never once looking in my eyes.
Not knowing how to handle this situation I tell her to pack any things she might have and stand in the hall for me.
I had no experience with this type of situation before and was at a loss, I didn't know how to speak to or approach her.
Deciding to leave her to it I look for Ryan and the rest of my men, I find them just outside the door, no sign of Kain with them.
'Where is he, Ryan?' I growl,
'Sorry sir I don't know, he just vanished, what the hell is going on Aiden?'
'I'll tell you later but for now, there's a terrified girl in there,' I say gesturing to Kain's room.
'She hasn't said anything or moved, she might be in shock. From the looks of it, she's been abused by Kain for years.'
Ryans face morphs into anger as I relay what information I gathered.Ryan and I walk slowly into the room as to not alarm the girl, I find her in the same place, in the silver cage, door closed, and clutching a small bag of what I assume to be her belongings.
'Ok, come on girl, do you want to walk or for us to carry you?' I state. I know this probably wasn't the best way to get her to trust us but I was still fuming from what happened with Kain.
She didn't respond, instead, opening the cage resulting in burning her hand more than it already was, and silently stood there, waiting for her next instruction.
'I guess she chose walking Aiden,' Stated Ryan. I leave Ryan to take care of the girl, I was furious at myself for so blindly trusting a man that betrayed me, blindsided me so effortlessly.
As I walk back into the creepy hall I was immediately unnerved,
'Get rid of these statues.' I order the nearest one of my pack members, the things were starting to get on my nerves. There was a blur of color next to me then it stood in front of the statues. The girl had suddenly regained life and was now attempting to guard the figures with her small naked form. She still never met my eyes, but it was obvious she was ready to die for these things. I sighed at this feeble attempt to fight me but respected her wishes for the weird things to stay. Ordering the pack member to stand down and not let anyone move them, I can see her ease her posture slightly.'Don't worry, we won't move the statues ok? I promise.' I offer, after hearing this she visibly relaxed then like a switch was flipped she returned to her submissive, auto-pilot-like form and stood silently next to Ryan.
Still clutching her small bag Ryan lead her to his car, taking her to the care of my pack.
Abelard growled in my head, for some reason he didn't like her being so close with Ryan. But even he didn't know why.
