Prologue

"I thought we're already settled with this, Matteu?. . ." sabi ng boses babae na naririnig ko mula sa likod ng pinto. ". . .Napag-usapan na ng mga parents mo ang tungkol dito at nakagawa na sila ng desisyon. Alam mo naman siguro na wala ka nang magagawa pa 'dun, hindi ba?"

I covered my lips with my hand to suppress myself from making any noise. Kahit naman sino ang makakita sa akin alam kong sasabihin nilang mali ang makinig sa usapan ng usapan pero hindi nila ako masisisi! My initial thought was to just tell them they're being too loud because I couldn't even sleep. Kakatukin ko na nga sana kaso, natigilan kaagad ako ng may marinig akong pamilyar na boses. I drifted from telling them to eavesdropping instead. What is he doing with this girl in the middle of the night?

"This is wrong, Audrey. . ." Napasinghap ako ng marinig ang boses ni Matteu sa loob ng kwarto. The tone of his voice suggests bitterness, which is a bit unusual to hear him speak that way. It used to be hoarse so it's hard for me to guess if he's alright or not. "This is not. . . right."

Alam ko namang wala ako sa lugar para makisali sa kanila, but there's something that's telling me to find out what's in them even if it is wrong. Wala naman sigurong may pake kung may makakita sa akin dito na nakikinig. Any minute soon, someone from this same apartment will pass me by but I don't care at all. Hindi ko man matukoy kung ano ang meron sa kanila, alam ko talaga na may mali.

"Everything may seem wrong about this, Matteu. But please, consider them too! They're the ones who know what's good for-."

"For me?" He chuckled in disbelief. I can imagine him holding his temper with his voice. "They can say whatever they want to say. Alam ko naman ang bottomline." Pabulong niya pang sabi na rinig naman.

"Everything. . ." He said as a loud breaking sound of a fragile glass resonate the whole hallway. "Fvck!"

Napakagat nalang ako sa ibabang labi habang nakadikit ang tenga sa pintong sinasandalan ko dahil baka mapasigaw ako ng wala sa oras sa ingay na mula sa loob. Okay, I wouldn't ask myself anymore since it's obvious that they are talking about a confidential matter privately at hindi tamang nandito ako sa labas at nakikinig ng pinag-uusapan nila sa loob but I'm dead curious!

"If that's the only way to make everything right, why don't you just agree?"

"I can't. . ." He managed to sound so emotionless with that response.

"Pero 'yun ang desisyon ng parents mo, alam mo iyon. Hindi mo puwedeng takasan ang-."

"I don't care of what will they think okay? I'm so done." Napasapo ako sa bibig ng biglang may nabasag sa loob na kung ano. "Dammit! Bakit ba ang daming pinggan dito?"

No matter how hard i try to conclude what they are doing inside, i just couldn't guess it right. Malamang sa malamang ay nag-aaway sila sa isang bagay at involved si Matteu sa bagay na 'yun kung ano man 'yon. I won't spend time thinking if it is an affair with this girl because spare it, kilala ko si Matteu. Masyado siyang busy sa buhay niya para magkaroon ng girlfriend.

"Then tell me why can't you?! 'Wag mong sabihing may-."

". . . May girlfriend ako." Matteu said coldly. "Gusto mong malaman kung bakit 'di ba? That is my reason. May girlfriend ako."

Hindi ko alam pero parang bigla nalang akong napatawa sa narinig kaya mas hinigpitan ko ang hawak sa aking bibig. The Irony! I've been stalking him for God knows how many years and i can even prove that those words that came out from his mouth are all lies. Well, kung meron mang magiging girlfriend si Matteu, 'yun ay si Vivoree. No other than me.

"Don't make me a fool!"

"You are already." He said and chuckled sarcastically. "May girlfriend ako-"

Slap!

"And you're really expecting me to believe you?!" the girl cried in anger. "I'm not dumb to fall for that, okay?."

Napailing nalang ako't napangiti sa mga naririnig ko. The way Matteu said it are too realistic to be real, masyadong makatotohanan para paniwalaan. He is on the clouds thinking he got me with his spiel but it just made me laugh even more in my mind. Girlfriend pala ha? 'Ni hindi nga siya lumalabas ng library diyan e.

. . .That's it. Hindi ko alam kung anong tumulak sa akin para pumasok sa loob ng kwarto pero iyon ang ginawa ko. Pinihit ko ang door knob na buti na nga lang talaga at hindi nakalock at kung hindi ay tatakbo nalang ako papalayo. Their eyes bawled in shock upon seeing me step inside.

"I'm home!"

"Who are you-."

I cut him off by hugging him tightly and he just froze on what I did. Nanatili lang akong nakayakap sa kaniya at matapos ang ilan pang segundo ay lumayo na ako para tignan siya. He's still seemingly unable to process what's going on and I wanted to laugh at his reaction.

For the last glimpse, I turned my gaze to the girl at my back and gave her a playful smile. . .

"Babe, who's she?. Siya ba 'yung maid na hinire mo kahapon?." Tanong ko kay Matteu nang nakangiti.

Sorry for making you wait for almost two weeks after posting the story officially. Don't worry, hindi pa naman ako sumusuko haha. Masyado lang busy ang kuya niyo sa pag-oonline class kaya medyo natagalan ang pag-update pero 'wag na kayong mag-alala dahil ito na, posted na ang prologue.

Some of you may find it hard to pronounce some of their names kaya naman naisipan ko ring gumawa ng note para hindi kayo masanay sa maling pronounciation ng pangalan nila. Vivoree (hindi po siya vi-vo-ri, kundi vay-vo-ri ang tamang pagbigkas) then, Matteu (as in Mat-yu, not Ma-te-yo nor Ma-te-yu).
