The Outer Banks, paradise on earth.

At least that's what everyone wants you to thinks. On this island, there are two rivals always at a go. Figure-eight, that's the north side of the island, I bet you can guess where I'm from. I'm actually from the north side of the island. I first moved here when I was three years old. I never learned to fit in with the rich kids. My parents were always what you would call humble, they never had much growing up. My dad got a job offer to work for Ward Cameron to fix boats and he eventually worked his way into selling his own boats.

My mother, on the other hand, she's a nurse at the hospital. It was always just me and my best pals, John B Rutledge, JJ Maybank, Kiara Carrera, and Pope Heyward.

I didn't meet them until I was in the second grade when JJ decided to put gum in my hair. He claimed that he never did it and blamed it on Topper to this day. After I had to get a haircut the next day JJ was supposed to apologize but never did, instead he made it up to me by introducing me to the other hoodlums.

Like I said I was alone my whole life due to my parents refusing to give me a sibling and them working all the time. They're my second family- no scratch that, they are my family.

John B has made this group's mission to have the most awesome summer before going back to school. He hasn't really been the same since his dad went missing nine months ago. He would never admit it, but he's the leader in this story. I couldn't count how many times he's made us try and do the impossible.

Kiara, everyone calls her Kie, pretty much the only one other than myself with the actual mindset of an adult. She's kept pretty much all of us alive, she's my best friend. She's the reason that I have a job, I work at her family's restaurant, called The Wreck. It's the only place where Pogues cant get antagonized by those who shall not be named.

Pope is the smartest person I know, also the only other person I go to for advice when Kie's not around. He's the smartest out of all of us since he's getting a full-ride scholarship, he's probably the only one getting off the island.

Finally, JJ Maybank. The boy who blatantly put a huge piece of gum in my hair. My mom always told me that JJ did it because he had a crush on me but I'd never believed that for one second. My right-hand man, my partner in crime. He was also the first person I ever drank and smoked with. Also the first person I ever ran from the cops with. JJ Maybank was also the first boy I ever liked, still to this day.

Then there's me, Faye Davenport, I'm nothing special. I work, sleep, party with pogues, repeat. I may be living on the north side of the island but with my friends, I was a pogue at heart.

"Faye!" John B yelled.

The crew was in Faye's house. She was MIA for over four days, never showed up to work. Didn't return any texts. She was in bed sleeping, she's been sleeping for four days straight since she found out everything, by that I mean her father was having an affair with his secretary. Her father hadn't been home in over four days, "Faye are you home?" Kie yelled.

JJ hurried up the steps and knocked on her bedroom door. He could hear her music playing so he knew she was in there, "Faye you better be decent cause I'm coming in, like right now." JJ said as he swung open the door.

Faye was curled up in her bed facing away from the door. The crew stood there not knowing what to do, "He left, he just left without saying goodbye." Faye spoke.

JJ let out a huge sigh, he knew what she was talking about. Four months ago the two were hanging out at The Wreck after her shift, when JJ was walking her home she saw her dad in a different car. The two waited to see what was gonna happen which was a huge mistake. JJ and Faye saw her father kissing another woman.

JJ came into her room, he motioned for everyone to give them a minute, "Faye." JJ spoke softly.

She turned around to face him. Her eyes were puffy from crying, tears stained her face, "What JJ?" Faye questioned.

JJ walked over to the side she was laying on. He kneeled in front of her, "Are you okay?" He asked.

She rolled her eyes, "No I'm not okay." Faye said.

JJ placed his hand on the side of her face and slowly caressed the side of her face. She grabbed his hand in hers, "What do you need princess?" JJ asked with a smile.

She just looked at him for a moment, "Can you just lay with me for a couple of minutes?" Faye asked.

JJ nodded his head. He walked over to the other side of the bed and sat down, he laid against the bed frame. Faye instantly turned around and nuzzled into his chest, he wrapped his arms around. There was the one thing she's felt in the four days that no other person could make her feel, that was the butterflies in her stomach. JJ made her feel everything in the book, mad, sad, etc. But the one thing he could always do was lift her mood in an instant, "Everything's gonna be okay Fi," JJ told her.
