It wasn't long before people started showing up by the truck loads and I mean that literally. They were packed in the beds of those trucks like sardines.
I walked over and situated myself on the big couch in Trent's living room to where I could see everyone as they walked in. I'm not sure where Troy is. He's probably talking with Trent or something.
I waited for someone that I knew to come by so I didn't look so awkward just sitting here. Don't get me wrong, I knew everyone there, I just didn't talk to all of them frequently enough to have a conversation with them. I walk all over the house looking for Troy. He can't be that hard to find. I mean, who else in the school has dark brown hair and bright blue eyes? Not many. I walk up the stairs and I regret this decision almost immediately. I can barely move through the narrow hallway without bumping into couples making out or passed out drunk on the ground.
I cleared the upstairs and went back down to look some more. I looked into the kitchen and of course. There he was. He noticed me and called me over. I head over and he puts his arm around me, I let him because, he always does. I figured he usually does it because he likes to be funny. Plus, we both felt on edge being the only single people there.
Trent calls out, "Are you two, a 'thing'?" he stumbles on his words because he obviously hasn't stopped drinking since the party started.
Troy looks over at him with this look of "shut the hell up." But doesn't actually say it.
Trent raises his hands in plea and says "sorry for asking."
I looked up at Troy expecting an explanation for what just happened. He just ignored it. As if I didn't even hear it. But I did.
I stay there and Troy and I had small talk with a few other people standing around in the kitchen with us. He was careful not to drink like the rest of them, knowing he had to drive us both home.
I pulled out my phone and realized, it was now 12:30. I'm all for parties but, this one was getting a little boring. All I see is couples falling out, leaving for their hotel rooms, making out, and drunk all over the place.
"Hey, wanna get out of here soon?" He asks making it sound like he wants me to say yes.
"Don't you want to stay and talk to Trent?"
"Trent walked off with Olivia awhile ago."
I didn't even realize he had left. I was so focused on this one couple who was too drunk to function in the corner.
"Yeah, we can leave anytime now."
Troy grabs my arm and tries to weave through the crowd of people without losing me. As we leave I heard a guy call out "Going to get some?" And started whistling at Troy and I. I was praying he didn't hear it, because that's kind of embarrassing for your best friend. Sadly, Troy did hear it and he turned around gave him a dirty look and flicked him off. We walked out the door and headed for the car.
"Sorry about that." I said to Troy. Trying to make it less awkward then it already was.
"Don't be, he's a prick." He said with anger in his voice.
I jumped onto his back trying to get him to laugh. It worked and he carried all the way to his car. I'm glad he's happy now, cause if he's in a bad mood, I'm gonna hear about it later.
We start heading to my house and we have the radio turned on our favorite band, Skillet. We were jamming out until he turned it down suddenly.
"Hey, um, I'm sorry for what Trent said in the kitchen earlier."
I had almost forgotten. I'm surprised he even knew that I had heard it!
"Oh, yeah. What was that about anyway?"
Troy turned up the radio trying to dodge my question. I'm not giving up that easy. I turned the radio down real fast and demanded an answer. He just glanced at me while trying to drive.
"He thinks you and I like each other." He said while looking at me to see my reaction.
"Oh... Well what did you say?" He just made a face like he was scared. He obviously wasn't expecting follow up questions.
"Can we talk about this later?" I nodded yes to this and he turned the radio back up but changed the station. It was really awkward the rest of the way home.
We pull into my driveway about 10 minutes later. I just sat there and I wasn't about to get out on that note. I was expecting him to say something. But nothing was said. We both just stared at the radio as it was playing quieter music. Which only added to the awkwardness in my opinion.
I kept thinking about everything that had happened tonight. Which made me think about the past and growing up with Troy. When we were little I use to have a huge crush on him. But who wouldn't? I was a little girl with a cute, boy, best friend. Our parents use to always tease us about liking each other. They still do, but it's not as embarrassing anymore because, we know for a fact that this was just a friendship and we were too good of friends to put it on the line.
I reach over to try and change the station because currently, Love Me Like You Do, by Ellie Goulding was playing. But I was stopped..
AUTHORS NOTE: I'm about to try and write the next chapter because I didn't want this one to be too long. It will pick up from here. Also, I encourage you to look up this song before continuing reading. It will help you understand and live in what's going on!
