There are losses that rearrange the world. Deaths that change your perception, the way you understand everything to be. There is pain that forces you to bow to new realities, even when nothing has seemed to change.
As I stood hidden in the woods, as I listened to a betrayal unfurl in full, all I felt was my heart pulsing like an empty shell. I had lost so much that day. How much more would I lose, would we all lose?
The rain poured hard around me, the wind whispering urgently in my ear. Now was not the time to stand around. Now was the time to act. The girl I loved stood alone out on the plains facing her greatest enemy. And after all that I had lost that day, I wouldn't lose her. Her story was not over, and I couldn't let it end. The peace she longer for, the balance she needed...I wanted to bring it to her.
Somehow she'd find it, the balance between who she wished to be and who she had to be just then. For now, I had to simply be satisfied with who I was. It wasn't so for her.
I, Kaedehara Kazuha, had naught but my sword and my Vision and my life. My life which I was so ready to give up for this girl I loved. I knew I could do it.
I unsheathed my blade and readied myself.
