Wow.
I am so happy I got to write this story and bring it to life. I'm really proud of it, and if you made it to the end, then THANK YOU.

I got the idea for this book when I was brushing my teeth one evening and I just kinda went from there. I loved (and sometimes hated because writing is friggin hard occasionally) writing Kazuha and introducing characters of my own while expanding on Inazuma and including Japanese mythology.

I want to thank all of you who read it, voted, commented, added it to a reading list, etc. It means the world to me, and overall, A Fox's Whisper has been so well received. All of your comments made me laugh or smile and they really encouraged me to keep writing.

I mentioned this briefly before, but this will most likely be my last Genshin fanfic for a while, though I'll probably still write Genshin one-shots. I haven't played the game in a long time, and while I still adore the characters, there are several reasons I've decided it's best if I set the game aside. It's likely that I'll write another Genshin Fanfic in the future, but I'm taking a break for now.

But anyways. Thank you a thousand times over, this book is for all the Kazuha simps and anyone who loves Genshin!

So, many of the names I chose for my original characters were chosen for specific reasons which I shall explain. I'll also include the meaning of Kazuha's and Yae's names because I love them. If any of my translations or meanings are inaccurate, please let me know so I can fix them. :)

Kaedehara Kazuha--"Kaedehara" means "maple field." "Kazuha" means "10,000 leaves." That's self-explanatory.

Okami Inari--"Okami" means "wolf" or "great deity." "Inari" means something along the lines of "successful one." Other translations say it means "loaded with rice." I didn't choose this name so much for the meaning as I did for who Okami Inari is in Japanese mythology. Sometimes Inari is seen as a male god, or a female, or androgynous. But I chose the female version. Inari is seen as the kitsune goddess and protector of rice cultivation (though that has nothing to do with this story) and I really liked the idea of using a kitsune deity in my writing of a main character. Much of her personality came from my own imagination, but things like her fear of dogs came from the fact that in several myths kitsune have a dislike of dogs, which I was more than happy to add to the plot.

Akio Haru (Yamabiko Dorobo)--"Akio" means "bright" or "clear," and "Haru" means "sunshine" or "springtime." I'll first explain this name. So I chose this because I envisioned Dorobo's alter ego, Haru, to be kind of goofy and a spot of light in the story. That was for plot purposes >:) But also, the names have to do with light (Dorobo's obsession). They're also fairly common Japanese names, so I just kind of liked imagining that Dorobo had no sense of originality when choosing that name to take on. As for Yamabiko Dorobo himself...
"Yamabiko" means "echo" and "Dorobo" means "thief."
Yes, it's obvious. Dorobo's character had much to do with voices, and that reflects back to the story title. And ya know. He stole Inari's star ball and a bunch of voices which is how the story got started (｡•̀ᴗ-)✧
And yamabiko actually are a yokai in mythology which I was tickled to death over when I chose the name. All the same, I love my villainous lil echo thief.

Daigo Sora (Lavigne)--"Sora" means "sky" and "Daigo" means "great enlightenment" though there's a number of translations for it. As for Sora's other last name (her mother's that she refuses to use) "Lavigne" means "vineyard."
Sora's name was chosen for no reason other than I liked it. I kind of pictured her father giving her a sweet kind of name. She mentions in the story that her mother is from Fontaine, which is I believe inspired by France. So the name Sora goes by is Japanese, but Lavigne is a French name.

Legion (Kanashimi Aiyuki)--"Legion" has no particular meaning other than its dictionary definition. It's not a real name. "Kanashimi" means "sadness" or "grief" and "Aiyuki" means "sorrow" though there are other translations.
Right, imma be honest. I got the name Legion from reading my Bible and there was a man possessed by demons named Legion and I thought it would be a cool alias. So...yeah. I used it. No regrets, my dudes.
As for the other two names, I always found Legion to be a sad character in my eyes and his backstory to be sad. And though he doesn't show it, if I could talk to him in real life, I think he'd say he's an incredibly sad, sorrowful person.

Yae Miko--"Yae" means "eightfold" but it can also mean "multilayered." "Miko" means "shrine maiden."
Again, very literal obvious meaning, though I'm not quite sure why the name Yae was chosen...maybe because she's a very dynamic character? Who knows!

Taka-- This name... is the word for "falcon" or "hawk" in Japanese.
Yeah that's it. Sora's not original when naming her pets. Of course neither was Dorobo because...

Pochi-- This name doesn't have much of a meaning that I could find.
Why you ask? Because Pochi is the Japanese equivalent of naming a dog Spot or something like that in English. Basic. Bland. Overused. Dorobo can't name things to save his life...which he didn't cuz Inari and Kazuha stabbed him to death

There's many names I didn't include that I used, such as the other kitsune names or Lady Saiguu or something like that, but it's cuz I'm lazy hehe.
