The End....?

Namjoon read over his report again before submitting it. He wanted to make sure he hadn't missed anything out and that he had explained clearly that he didn't consider Father Hoseok to be involved at all with Jacquie or the Russians.

Father Hoseok had been entirely shocked when Namjoon eventually disclosed his true identity to him after Jacquie's arrest. Hoseok kept giving him looks of total disbelief and awe at Namjoon's ability to completely deceive him the whole time. "But I'm so good at working people out, how did I miss it?" he challenged.

"Well, MI6 does train its spies very well. How were you to know I was actually working for them as a covert operative?"

Namjoon went on to explain that the code had never been in Maggie's hand that night he first met him, and that Maggie had also been working for them. (Father Hoseok had needed a chair at this point). Before Strike's demise, he'd told MI6 about Jacquie and her involvement with the Russian mafia. They figured that their best chance of catching Jacquie was through Maggie. When MI6 first approached her, she had been understandably hesitant. A small town reporter was being asked to help MI6 take down the mafia, but eventually managed to be convinced that she'd be of invaluable help (and that her country needed her). She knew about the related life-threatening risks, "but I don't think she expected her death to come at the hands of her once close friend," said Namjoon sombrely.

Father Hoseok wiped a tear. He still needed time to digest this fresh information.

Namjoon had been sent by MI6 to help Maggie on her mission. She had helped set the trap to meet Jacquie that ill-fated night and Namjoon was supposed to stay hidden in the crypt until the right time came to apprehend Jacquie, but unfortunately he was too late. "I'm so sorry Father H. I let Maggie down. I was so angry with myself that I made sure I would catch Jacquie even if it was the last thing I did. One thing I hadn't expected was to meet you that same night, so I had to think on my feet. I didn't know if I could trust you (Father Hoseok looked appalled at the thought). I made up the fact about finding a code on Maggie and then after that, I kind of made it up as I went along. My superiors were not happy with me having a wing-man," he chuckled. "It was only when we were breaking that code that I knew I could trust you, I'm sorry."

"You mean, that whole time....it was all a ruse. Was....was the hug fake too?" he asked Namjoon, hoping not to be disappointed.

Namjoon laughed. "No, I was genuinely happy that you weren't working for the mafia!" Father Hoseok sighed in relief. The last few days had turned up more than a lifetime's worth of surprises that had tested the functioning of his heart on many occasions.

Namjoon submitted his report, satisfied with its contents. Shortly after, he also sent out his letter of resignation. He'd already decided long ago that this would be his last mission and the last cypher he'd solve for MI6. He wanted a less complicated life although he hadn't even decided on what he was going to do next. Maybe he'd explore that quiet town that turned out to not be so quiet in the end. Maybe he and Father Hoseok would uncover more of its untold secrets........
