You lay on the silk bed sheets staring at the ceiling, committing the little patterns you find on the old ceiling to memory. You folded the fabric of the bedsheets between your fingers and played with it to distract yourself from your thoughts as they were rather unpleasant. You were pulled out of your trance by the shrikes of the old hinges on the bedroom door as the door was opened.

You moved so your head was facing the door and to your surprise, you saw the lady of the castle standing there. Her face displayed a mix of concern and relief. This left you puzzled. The click of her high heels took over your hearing as she walked over to where you lay on the bed. She sat down next to your head, the bed creaking under the new weight. After a few moments, the lady pulled your head into her lap and started to run her hand through your hair. You found these actions out of character but they were not unwelcome. The opposite was true. You found the lady's actions quite welcomed.

"My dear, why have you not left your chambers today?" she said voice soft as if she were talking to a scared animal. The pieces finally connected in your mind. The ladies unusual behaviour was the result of a deep concern for your unusual behaviour. You had not meant to upset the mistress nor had you realized how much time had actually passed.

"I'm not sure I have the answer myself, mistress." you reply. No part of the statement is a lie. There was a brief moment of silence before the mistress spoke up.

"Could you describe how you felt today?" she inquired. You took some time to ponder on your response before answering Lady Dimitrescu.

"I felt very detached from reality. Almost like I was a spectator of my own life." you muttered ashamed of how you had been feeling today. When you finally moved your gaze from the ceiling to look up at Lady Dimitrescu, she was donning a soft smile. A crease forms in the space between your eyebrows out of confusion. The lady seems to notice this and smooths the crease off your face with her thumb.

"That sounds like dissociation, my dear. Has something been bothering you?" Lady Dumitrescu questioned. This time your answer didn't require much thought.

"My thoughts have been far from delightful today." you answered. The lady once again runs a

hand through your hair.

"Would you like to talk about them?" she asks.

"No, just please stay here." you reply with a slight tremor in your words.

"Of course I'll stay with you my love." she assured. Lady Dimitrescu proceeded to keep you company from dusk till dawn.
