I shudder at the snow piling near my feet. My shoes were already completely soaked.

It was my fault thinking that the business trip to London would do me some good. All I've gotten in return was a few cheap bills and a freezing cold hotel room. I wondered if I'd ever make as much as they promised to me that day.

Ringaling ding.

"Millie!" I walk into the warm cafe and shudder at how fast the snow on my shoes melt into my socks.

Rochester Cafe. It was a family business. Millie Rochester had been running it for nearly 3 years with her brothers. Famous for its hot drinks and salty cheap foods, I figured that this would be the place to make my move.

"(Y/N)! Good to see ya!" Millie bobbed out of the busy kitchen. She had light blonde messy hair tied up into a short ponytail and had round hazel eyes. Millie had a long but slim nose with thin dark lips, thick eyebrows, and a mole right under her left eye. Rochester was short and round and wore a white button down with black pants and a scarlet apron around her waist. White flats were on her feet.

"Hey..I need a favour." I glance away in shame. "Could you-"

"Ah, London life's too expensive, eh?" She gave a disappointed sigh and walked over to the cash register. Giovanni was fast asleep at the counter-as always. "How much do you need?"

I scratch my head and frown. "48 dollars and 26 cents."

"Is that for rent?" Millie began plucking out crisp dollar bills and scraping out change from the musty box.

"Hey, hey, hey!" A tall man, wearing the sane outfit as Millie stormed over. He also had blonde hair tied up in a small pony tail and wide, brown buggy eyes with thin lips, a sharp nose, and a jawline sharper than a knife.

Man, he was good looking.

"Ye can't just give it to 'em!"

"It's none of your business, Max."

"We're losin' money because you're givin' out free loans!"

"They'll pay me back!" Millie scoffed and dropped the money into my freezing cold hand. "Right?"

I glance at her brother. He always did seem to hate me for some reason. I never knew why. "Of course. A loan is a loan." I gulp and look away. His glare practically burned thru me.

"That's the last time we'll ever bank it for you." Max slammed the cash register shut and retreated into the kitchen to complain more.

Millie frowned and placed a hand on my shoulder. "Ignore him, alright? You're free to ask me for anythin'. Alright?"

Max's sharp glare was etched into my memory. "Yeah..totally.." I mumble and glance at the ground. I never was that confident. Anything could easily sway me.

"Here. I know it'll only get colder on your way out." Millie stormed into the kitchen.

Oh..no..

She hurried back and shoved a hot cup of something into my hand. "Take this as a Welcoming Present!"

I give a sad chuckle. "You already gave me an apartment room."

"Well, it's not the best, is it?" She folded her arms and narrowed her eyes. She always gave me that look when she knew she wasn't going to change her mind.

"..Alright. Thanks, Mill. I appreciate it a lot." I flash her one of my best smiles and storm out just before she could say anything. The cold air that hit me instantly made me flinch.

Why was she so..nice? Well, she's Millie. She's nice to everyone. Stubborn but sensitive. I had only walked into her cafe once during the Summer just for a vacation and found myself listening to her ranting about her family minutes later.

She was so confident. So popular. So..optimistic! Everything I wasn't.

I pop open the small lid of the drink and took a sip. My tongue immediately scorched. Hot chocolate in a cup-it tasted like I had bit into a cacao plant stuffed with sugar. She must have added another spoonful of it before she handed it to me.

Confident. Popular. Optimistic. Sweet, too.

I give a disappointed sigh. Why did I even bother? I had a horrible apartment. My only friend here was successful and ran a business of her own. I had her brother's leftover apartment room which smelled stale and moldy. It offered things such as a dirty bathroom and a small bed. The kitchen and living room were merged together and it always dropped below zero even before it was 9.

Be grateful, (Y/N). At least you have a roof over your head. Even if the roof looked like it was going to cave in sometimes...

Oh, well. Tomorrow was a new day..
