"hmm" jaebeom looked through the file he was holding and mumbled a few words to himself. Then he slammed the table and motioned all of us to follow him to the meeting room. This gave me a hint that he must have found something about the case we were handling. So we all got up and followed him."There was at least 13 kids missing and all of them were picked up on their way to their house from their school. I've done some research and all 13 of the kids have one thing in common. And It's the most easy clue. Their parents work in the hospital." he said while writing and pointing to the board infront of us.
"As a matter of fact, i myself did some little research and other than their parents and the similar occupation, i think the clue that would lead us to the criminals the most is their motive and the way of kidnapping." i said while pointing on the other side of the board. Jaebeom looked at me and nodded, motioning me to explain what i analyzed. "You see, they seem like their experienced enough because no sane person would go around kidnapping kids in broad daylight. But kids are being kidnapped at 11 am most of the time, which is a proximate time of kids heading back to their houses. And the one evidence we have is this old lady, who witnessed one incident and informed our department." i picked up a file from the table beside me and gave it to jaebeom to read it.
"There was these two weird man. They both look exactly like each other, most likely twins. They both wore the same colourful clothes and they lured the little kid into walking with them. When the little girl refused, they both carried her into a normal car and drove to the south alley." jaebeom finished reading and furrowed his brows. "But come to think of it, most kidnappers would wear dark clothes in order to not stand out and they started off as any other normal person would? Why?" yugyeom asked as his expression was the same as jaebeom. "What if standing out is their motive?" bambam suddenly said. Then it clicked.
"Holy crap bam you're a genius." i smiled as i wrote in the board. "I think i cracked the case a little. Maybe standing out was their motive all along. I feel like smuggling kids away is what they're doing. And the fact that all of the kids have doctor parents is also understandable. They have a catch. And it can only be solved by doctors." i said while pointing at the board.
"Alright! That concludes our meeting. Bambam, i want you to call the old lady and ask her if she remembers the car number or not. Yugyeom, look through the files once again and see if there's anything i missed." he looked at them both and then me, "yeonbin, you follow me to the department head, we need to complete some paperwork." he asked and i followed as he told.
( anot investigate - one lead to other - injury - hospital)"so have you guys find anything about the case yet?" the department head eyed me and jaebeom curiously. i looked at jaebeom before slowly placing the file infront of him. he picked it up and looked through it quietly while jaebeom and i stood there, fiddling with our fingers. we had printed out everything we discussed in the meeting room because yugyeom was writing everything down on his laptop.
he finished looking through the files and closed the file to hand it back to jaebeom. "guess you guys are close to cracking this case! good job." he smiled and sat back on his seat. "we are here for a warrent. we are really close to the criminals, so if we catch them, we need to make sure they done use warrent as an excuse." jaebeom said and it hit me, well he was right. we couldn't possibly let them out of our hands for this minor reason.
the department head handed us two cards and told us to wait for a minute. we both were pretty confused but did as he told anyways. he pulled out four ginseng syrups from his drawer. that was a korean chief move. "take this for yugyeom and bambam too. i'm so proud of your unit! you guys solved most of our cases in the last few years. i sometimes feel like others in the department are just stalling around at this point." he laughed, it was all true that we have been spending more time solving more cases than the whole department itself couldn't. i guess being the nerd genius friend group in college really paid off for all of us. we thanked him for the ginseng and exited the room to head towards our meeting room.
"department head really looked proud!" jaebeom laughed, breaking the silence in our way back to the meeting room. i didn't realize we were walking in silence until he spoke up. i smiled back, i feel like there's a very important point we missed out in the investigation. something just feels really off all of a sudden. "hey!" jaebeom snapped me back reality once again. "you good?" he looked at me with concern as i shrugged. "i dont know. i just feel like we missed an important point in the case." i laughed, "it may sound dumb but i just feel this way." i looked up at the empty hallway we were walking in, "we are close to cracking the case anyways so stop stressing yourself, you have been spacing out so much nowdays." he pinched my cheek. i guess he is right but i still have my doubts.
"the lady said she doesnt remember the car number." bambam said as soon as we entered the meeting room. "but she did say her neighbour had a car parked near it so i guess we can go and check the dashcam?" bambam added as i handed them the ginseng. "i dont see any difference in the report either, maybe bambam and i can go to collect the dashcam footage?" yugyeom stood up. "sure but pickup your warrent from department head before heading out." i reminded them as they got ready to leave. i could see jaebeom smile from the corner of my eyes. they both nodded as they walked out. "give me credit for that sentence women!" jaebeom laughed and i narrowed my eyes. "fine! you get the credit" i rolled my eyes and looked down at my table, smiling at his cuteness.
