Sarah
“Oh my God!” Ava, my best friend, gasped in horror while covering her mouth with a hand and watching Paisley aka Callahan’s fiancee’s unconscious body on the bed. “Is she dead?”
“No!” Travis, my other buddy, grumbled while dumping the syringe into the bin next to the bed. He had just given her a shot. “She’s fallen asleep for a few hours.”
“This is a crime!” Ava cried out when the realization hit her.
“Calm her down!” Travis hissed at me, raking his fingers through his thick black hair. He was trying to help me and Ava was messing with my plan.
“You need to calm down.” I reached out to her and squeezed her shoulder. “She is not dead...”
“What are you going to do next?” She asked quickly and didn’t give me a chance to complete myself.
“Replace her with me in the wedding ceremony.”
“Don’t tell me you’re going to marry Callahan Branton.”
I nodded frantically, glancing at the real bride. Paisley Wright was Callahan Branton’s beautiful, kind-hearted, and charitable fiancée. She had all the qualities that I did not have. I’d planned to take her place and get married to Callahan.
Callahan Branton was the richest, youngest, and sexiest lawyer, and also the boss of my father. He was the man I loved most, more than myself. He was the man who stole my soul, my body, and my everything. I’d met him the first time when he’d moved to his magnificent mansion in front of our small two-story house ten years ago. Since then I’d fallen hard in love with him.
I grew up loving that man, and it would kill me if I saw him with another woman. I couldn’t see him with anyone but me. He was mine. If I had to risk my life, I was going to do it. Once we make vows, no one would be able to separate us. Guess why, because Brantons never got divorced. I was underage and might be punished, but it was worth it as long as I became his wife. I had pulled a lot of stunts in my past life, but this one was the biggest and scariest.
“You are only seventeen, for god’s sake, Sarah,” Ava chided and made me look at her angel-like face. “You can’t do this. This is idiotic!”
“I’ll do anything for him!” I said with determination.
“You have no idea what you are getting yourself into, Sarah.” Ava shook her head in frustration. “Do you have any idea who you’re messing up with? Callahan Branton! He is known as the most terrifying lawyer in the country. Once he learns what you’ve done to his fiancee, he won’t let you go unharmed. He might put you in prison.”
“Prison?” I broke into a laugh at her innocent brain. “I’m not stupid risking my life for nothing. Let me make it all clear to you. First, he won’t recognize me because there is a tradition Branton has been following for centuries. The bride won’t reveal her face until the ceremony is over. And second, he won’t put his wife into prison. And third, there’s no chance of divorce because Branton doesn’t get a divorce.”
