Present
Sarah
I groaned when my phone rang and didn't stop ringing. It kept ringing and gave me a severe migraine. I sat down on the bed, rubbing my temple as my head was pounding with nasty throbs. I guess yesterday I drank the entire club's hard drink. "I need aspirin, otherwise my head would explode at any moment."
Forcing myself out of the bed, I headed to the kitchen to fetch a glass of water, but then my stupid buzzed out again and startled me. I pressed my palm against my chest, feeling my rapid heartbeats. "Who the hell is calling this morning?" I hissed out and glanced at the clock on the wall that was tickling and showing at 4 in the morning.
Wait, 4 a.m., but a bright light was pouring through the window. How come? "Shit! It's 4 in the evening. How long have I been sleeping?" I snatched my cell phone from the nightstand, finding Ava, my best friend's number, popping on the screen. Without another thought, I swiped up and chirped out, "hey Ava..."
"Sarah...!" Ava cried out on the phone and gave me a bolt of panic in my chest.
What the heck?
"Ava, what happened? Is everything alright?" Oh, she was pregnant with twins. "Oh, your babies... oh my god! Please tell me you are okay?"
"Sarah, I am okay," she said calm voice this time. "Are you okay?"
I sighed. "Well, you frightened me to death, girl? I'm perfectly fine, just hungover." I rubbed my temple, grimacing with a harsh throb in my skull.
"You don't know..?" she said in disbelief, and I frowned in confusion. She sounded weird.
"What?" I groaned annoyingly. "Why are you talking like a stranger, Ava? You're doing nothing but giving me more headaches."
"Where is Jack?" she demanded, and despair washed over me.
Gosh! Please don't ask, I mumbled to myself. "Um.. he is taking shower..." I lied after a moment of silence.
"Shower?" she blurted out in shock. "Is he taking a shower?" she repeated as if she heard me wrong.
"Yes..." I said confidently, hoping she would believe that. I hated talking about Jack.
"Have you watched the news?" she asked another weird question.
"It seems like your pregnancy hormones are driving you nuts, woman. Why are you asking me these weird questions? My husband, shower and news."
"Oh, Sarah..." she choked as if she was about to cry. "You know nothing. Please turn on the TV and watch today's headlines."
Gosh! She sounded so serious. Swallowing balls of panic, I dashed into the living room and turned on the T.V.
'Illinois officer Jack Robbins has been charged for murdering Senator Jeremy Robbins.' The reporter announced, and I froze, watching everything, dumbfounded.
I saw Jack was being thrown in the police car, his hands cuffed behind his back and his shirt and hands stained with blood.
"No...!" I gasped in disbelief. "This is a lie. He can't murder his brother...!"
'It said this event took place at midnight at Senator's House, Valentino.'
"Valentino!" I gasped and covered my mouth with a hand. "Jelly, Belly, Lolita, and Justin!" I immediately looked around for my car keys, but it was nowhere in sight. "Shit, I forgot to pick my car from the ice cream parlor." I closed my eyes, breathing deeply. After a moment, I hurried out of my house and called a cab.
