It was a crisp Monday morning. The air was cold and sharp outside, being the middle of autumn, and the leaves were painted yellows and reds. Inside the morgue, it was cool, but warmer than outside and y/n was busying herself with tasks before Liv and Ravi came back with hot beverages.
Y/n knew Liv was a zombie, she found out the same time as Ravi. Being cool like Ravi, she took it well, and the two doctors were her closest friends. The only other zombie she knew of was Blaine, but she hadn't met him yet. Liv said he was alright, but was still wary of y/n meeting him. Liv got hesitant when talking about Blaine and y/n had yet to learn much about him.
Just as y/n put her lab coat on, she heard someone enter the morgue and thought Liv and Ravi were finally back. "Took you long enough, where did you get the drinks? On the other side of the city?" Y/n said with a chuckle, but as she turned she didn't see Liv and Ravi, but rather a guy with platinum blonde hair.
"Uh.. sorry, not Liv or Ravi. Blaine! M-my names Blaine." He stated hurriedly with a nervous chuckle. Blaine? He was nothing like Liv and Ravi described. The Blaine that they described was cocky, suave, and arrogant. But this Blaine? He seemed nervous, quiet.
"Oh, hey! Sorry, I wasn't expecting you." Y/n replied with a warm smile, letting him know he was welcome. Blaine came in with a slight smile of his own. "I've heard about you from Liv though, the other zombie, right?"
"Yeah, Ravi asked me to come here for some tests. He wanted to compare my results to Liv's I think."
"We'll, they're not here yet, but I can do the tests if you like! I'm starting to think they really did go to to the other side of the city." Y/n said with a laugh, and Blaine smiled back. "I'm y/n, by the way." Blaine sat up on the table while y/n got the apparatus, and he couldn't help but get annoyed at himself for how reserved he was acting. He never froze in front of pretty girls, why was he now?
"Ok, I'll take your pulse first," y/n said "it'll only take a minute." As Blaine absently gave her his wrist he felt his heart rate quicken against his will. Her grip was gentle and her hands were warm, and Blaine thought she was far too close. He felt a brief sense of embarrassment and knew that even though he was dead, the difference in pulse rate would show up in the comparison to Liv's.
With a slight blush, Blaine got up suddenly. "You know what? I just remembered, I have to be somewhere, can you tell Ravi I'll do the tests another time? Thank you." He said quickly, all the while walking out the door. Y/n was shocked at the sudden change in his demeanour and realised he must've had some important business to attend to. She didn't even notice the dust of pink on his cheeks (or as pink as they could be, considering he was a zombie).
-
Not long after, Liv and Ravi came back with hot drinks in hand. Handing one to y/n, the three chatted, not having a body to attend to."Oh, Blaine's supposed to be coming today, we should get the stuff set up ready." Ravi exclaimed, but y/n intervened before he could get up.
"He already came," she started, "I offered to take the tests, but he left when I was taking his pulse. Said he forgot that he had to be somewhere."
"That doesn't sound like Blaine," Liv replied, "usually he's very organised with his meetings." Liv was clearly confused and suspicious, but Ravi seemed calm.
"Happens to the best of us, even Blaine I guess." Ravi answered.
The three went on with their day, not giving the meeting another thought. Blaine, on the other hand, couldn't stop thinking about it.
-
Blaine was at Shady Plots 'talking' to Don. E. Really he was lost in thought, and ignoring whatever Don. E was saying. He was thoroughly embarrassed about his meeting with y/n, and wasn't sure if she noticed or not. It was very unlike him ti act like that. It had been so long since someone acted so nice to him though... her smile seemed so genuine.
"Dude!" Don. E interrupted his thoughts. "Are you even listening?"
"What? Sorry, can you say that again, I zoned out."
"I said..." Don. E continued, but Blaine zoned off again. Maybe he could meet her again, and create a better impression of himself? Or maybe he should forgot about her and hope that she never sees him again? At this point, Blaine was just contemplating letting the ground swallow him.
-
A week later, Ravi asked Blaine to come to the morgue again for tests. Blaine was wary because he didn't want to embarrass himself in front of y/n again, but he didn't let this slip in front of Ravi. He ended up coming on a Wednesday, and was pleased to find that y/n wasn't there."Ok, Blaine, I'll start with taking your pulse." Ravi spoke cheerfully. Ravi began taking Blaine's pulse, and Blaine remained calm this time. That is, until y/n walked in.
Catching sight of her, Blaine felt his heart rate pick up, and his cheeks become warm, but he didn't say anything. He just avoided eye contact with everyone, especially when Ravi looked up concerned. Just as Ravi was about to say something that would surely embarrass Blaine, he looked up and saw Blaine's blush as he kept his head down and away from y/n. With a knowing smirk, Ravi kept his mouth shut, and took his pulse again when his heart rate calmed.
-
Finishing up Blaine's test, Ravi put the apparatus away. Y/n had left a while ago, and there was fortunately no more hiccups. There was, however, an awkward moment where y/n tried to make conversation with Blaine, and Blaine tried hard to escape it, acting rather cold in retaliation. Ravi did his best to change the conversation, and y/n soon got the hint that he didn't want to talk, and Blaine went back to his chatty self once she left.Just as Blaine started to leave, Ravi told him to hang back, so Blaine waited while the two doctors finished their task.
"So, Blaine," Ravi started, "what was with the first pulse check?" Blaine began to blush again, and tried to evade the question.
"I don't know what you mean, there's nothing wrong with the result on the paper. I guess I should be going..."
"Not so fast, Blaine!" Liv intervened just before Blaine could get away. "What's this about his pulse?"
"Ohh, I'm just saying... it got awfully fast when y/n walked in. Well... fast for a zombie." Ravi explained in a sly tone, much to Blaine's dismay.
"I think you're mistaken doc, good day!" Blaine once again tried to leave, and once again Liv interrupted.
"You know, y/n did say something about you leaving when she tried to take your pulse," she said slowly, "you didn't, perhaps, leave because of her?" She asked with a devilish smirk. "Did she make you nervous?" She laughed a little, and Ravi did too. It was all in good fun, but Blaine was having none of it.
"Absolutely not, now if you'll excuse me, I have business to attend to!" And with that Blaine left, thoroughly annoyed, but also a little worried that they'd say something to y/n.
'What the hell is this girl doing to me? Get it together Blaine!'
