I wake up, and look down as Hope wriggles her way up to me. I look around as my eyes adjust. Boxes everywhere. The only thing I could be bothered to set up was my bed. I yawned, and went to a box labelled clothes. I grabbed out an outfit for school. My new school, right in the middle of a semester. Great. I sigh, and put on my Spotify playlist, and get ready.

I walk downstairs to the kitchen, where Jacob is making breakfast. "Hey kiddo, how are you doing? Did you sleep well?" I look at him and smile, nodding my head. I didn't want him to know that I was scared of going to a new school. He graduated the year before, and was looking for a job. I grabbed a breakfast bar, and gave Jacob a hug, before heading to the door. I was 17, bit in Australia we couldn't drive by ourselves at that age, so I had to walk to school.

Portland high school, I thought as I opened the door to the front office. A lady was sitting there, and looked up as I walked in, the door closing behind me. "Can I help you?" She asked with a smile. "Yeah, hi. My name is Harlo Everett. I'm new? I transferred from Australia." She looks up at me, and then pulls out a little folder. "Here is your schedule, and a map of the school. Good luck!" I thank her, and head out. Looking up and down the corridor, I have no idea where to go.

Suddenly a girl, around my age, grabs my folder and flicks through it. "Um. Can I help you?" I say irritated. She looks up at me and smiles. "Hi! I'm Sarah! I'll take you to your locker if you want." I nod, and we make our way to the lockers. Sarah starts filling me in on all of the drama at the school, and I zone out, just taking in all of the people. "Anyway, here we are!" I look back at Sarah to see that we are at my locker. "Oh, thanks." She nods and smiles. "Oh your class is actually just across from your locker for period 1." She waves and heads of to her class. I take a deep breath, grab everything I need for literature, and walk through the door.

As the door slams shut behind me, everyone and everything stops. I look down, then realise that I don't want to look weak, or seem childish. I square my shoulders, take another deep breath and look up at everyone, tensing my jaw, forced by habit. I look at the front of the room any the teacher smiles at me. I walk over and hand her my schedule, and she looks me up and down before looking at the class. "Alright folks, we have a new student. Why don't you introduce yourself dear?" She turns to me and gestures to the class. I nod and look at the students. "G'day, my name is Harlo Everett, I'm 17, and I'm from Australia."

I look down and up again, and see students with their hands raised. I look at the teacher, and she nods, I look back and a boy asks me if it's true that we ride kangaroos everywhere. I roll my eyes. Classic questions for the Aussies. "No that's only for special occasions. We normally ride the crocs for day to day activities. But the koalas take our mail and deliver it for us." I supress a smirk and look back at the teacher. "Alright Harlo, take a seat. Perhaps next to Jack?" I look around, and a boy raises his hand and I slide into the seat.

*Fast forward to lunch*

I sigh and put my stuff in my locker. As I pull my arm out, the locker slams shut. "Think I'm an idiot?" I look back and see the boy from Literature standing over me. The hallway goes dead silent. He grabs my Apple, and throws it across the hall, the apple breaking in half. I look back and push his hand away. "What's your problem dude? It was a joke. Maybe you shouldn't be so gullible."

The guy growls and and pulls my necklace of, snapping it. "Hey!" I feel the tears welling up. That was the necklace my parents bought me. He holds it up and shakes it. "Do you want it back? Gonna have to jump." All of a sudden, I hear a skateboard, and look to the right, where a boy rides past, and crashes into the Guy. "Sorry man I didn't see you there." He grabs his board and glances at me. Woah. His eyes are this hazel colour, but when he looked at me, there was this flash of silvery Gray.  His eyes harden, and he looks down at his hand, before looking at me again. I look at his hand, and see he has my necklace in his hand. He skates off, and I look back at the other guy. He gets up and walks off, seeming to forget about the argument.

I look back to where the boy skated off, and shake my head. Who was he? Will I get my necklace back?. I shrug it off and drift off to Sarah, sitting in silence while she talks about and to everyone. Last period rolls around and I feel like crap. I just want to go home, and curl up on a ball and sleep. As I open the door, I look up and see a flash of silver. I look away and do a double take. It's him. He has an empty seat on either side of him. No one is sitting with him. He looks at me and his face softens, before hardening again. He tenses his jaw, and looks at the seat next to him, before looking at me again. I breath in, before exhaling and walking to the seat. People looked at me as I sat next to him. Sarah walks through the door and stops dead when she sees me sitting there. She shakes her head, and sits in front of us.

I look at the back of her head, and down again. Why did she look at me like that. I glance over as the mystery boy clears his throat, and see him sliding his hand across the table to me. "Figured you might want this back." He mumbled and places my necklace in front of me. I look at him and smile, before looking down at my necklace. Wait, it was broken before, but... "You fixed it." I stated. "Well yeah. How are you supposed to wear it of its broken?" He asks. The teacher walks on and starts typing away on his computer. "Ummm. What class is this?" I ask and he smirks. "Social studies. The teachers basically just let us talk for this class and they class that as social studies. I'm Griffin, by the way." He looked down. "Harlo" I smile and he looks up. "Yeah, I know." I look at him confused. " Everyone's been talking about the new girl from Australia." He says, and I nod and look down. Before I even realise, the class is over and the bell goes, indicating the school day is over.

I walk out of the front gate, as it starts to rain. I look up and sigh, before hoisting my bag higher over my shoulder and walking. A car rolls down and slows. The window comes down, and Griffin is behind the wheel. " Need a ride?" I smile, and jump on the car. "Thanks." He nods, and hands me the Aux cord. "Here, play something." I look at him and he smiles. "Actually, I have a question. People were giving me weird looks when I sat with you. Do you know why?" He sighs and looks at me before looking back at the road. "I don't talk to many people." He smiles, bit it seems forced, almost like he's hiding something. He stops the car in front of my house. "See you at school tomorrow." He nods and smiles, and I shut the door, watching him leave. Wait... I never gave him my address.
