I woke up feeling quite content, In the first time for a while. I sighed and sat up, looking at the time. Starting in the middle of a semester, and staring the first day of school on a Thursday. I got my clothes and got ready to shower. "Harlo!" I turned around and looked at Jacob. "Hey. I have something for you." He takes my hand and leads me over to a room. And opens the door. "I turned one of the spare rooms into a gym for you." I looked around in awe. It was the perfect set up. If only... "Jake, you know I'm not going to use this." I shook my head and sighed "thank you though." He smiled. "I'll get you to use it. Eventually. I laughed. He'd always been so persistent. I grabbed my clothes from my room and got ready for school.
As I got out of the shower, I heard my phone go off as a text came through.
Griffin
Want a ride?I respond saying sure and I head out. "Later Jake!" He waves goodbye and bids a good day at school and I shut the door behind me. I run down the porch and into the car, Griffin behind the Wheel, his other hand resting on the passenger side. "Hey stranger!" I say smiling at him. "Hey." He reverses the car and zooms off, and I smile as he glances at my outfit. "Why do you only wear pants? Not that it's a bad thing." He says looking back at the road. I furrowed my brow slightly and thought about whether I should answer it or not. "I'm... Self conscious of my legs." He snorts, and I look at him. "What? I don't buy it." I look back at the road. "Well that's too bad then. That's my answer." He shrugs and pulls into the parking lot.
As he turns off the engine, he tells me I can't open the door, claiming it's stuck from the inside. I shrug, not wanting to ruin it more. He comes around and opens my door for me, and people watch us again, like they did the day before. He grabs my bag and holds it for me, and walks me to my locker. I Grab my books and put my bag in my locker, turning and following Griffin to his. As he grabs his stuff, we walk to the classroom that I was in, and he leaves me at the door. "Later, Harlo." I wave and head to my seat.
The day flys by, and I get to my locker to see Griffin waiting there, his bag slung over his shoulder, his hair messy but looking like it's styled perfectly. He smirks as he notices me watching, and I blush and open my locker and grab my bags, putting my books for homework in and shutting it. "C'mon, I'll take you home." I smile, and he puts his arm round my shoulder and leans down to whisper in my ear. "I'll buy Starbucks. When we get home I have homework too, so maybe we can FaceTime and work on it together? Homework date?" I look up at him and nod.
After we get home and work on homework, Jacob comes home and brings pizza, and brings it to my room. "Hey, I brought you pizza." He opens my door, and I grab it and thank him, before walking back over. "Hey, I've got to go, I'll talk to you later." I close the laptop before Griffin responds, and Jake looks at me. "Who was that?" I smile and say "wouldn't you like to know?" He raises an eyebrow and I laugh. "The neighbour. We go to school together." Jacob smiles. "I'm glad you've made a friend. Listen, i found work, but the interview is in France. I need to go to get in. Is that okay with you?" I nod and watch him. "When do you have the interview?" He swallows and looks down. " I leave tomorrow." I nod and look down. We talk About his work and school, and eventually he ruffles my hair, getting up to go. "Thank you for understanding Harlo."
I turn off my lights and get a ring from Griffin on my MacBook. I accept the video call, and his face pops up, grinning. "Hey! Want to read the English book now?" I nod and settle into reading, him on the other end. I drift off to sleep.Third person pov
Jacob walks into Harlo's room and sees Griffin sitting on the phone. "Who the fuck are you?" Jacob whispers, noticing that Harlo is sleeping. "I'm Griffin, the neighbour. I'm friends with Harlo." Jacob nods and sits down next to Harlo, peeling back the blanket. As he reaches to pull her trackies down, Griffin glares. "Dude what are you doing?!" Jacob puts a finger to his mouth. "Relax. She has shorts on underneath. I have to moisturize her leg." Griffin looks at Jacob confused. "Why?" Jacob looks up. "Do you know why we moved here?" Griffin shook his head. "Our parents died. I fell down some stairs, and went to the hospital. They were coming to see me. Harlo was in the back. Everyone that was involved in the accident died except for her. She came out with a nasty scar on her leg. So it has to be moisturized." Griffin nods his head in understanding. "Is that why she only wears jeans?" He asks. Jacob nods. " It's a shame, she was self conscious about the scar and didn't want people to see, so she stopped running. She was great too. Such a shame." Jacob finished applying the moisturiser and pulled her trackies back up. "Goodnight Griffin. Oh and do me a favour, take care if her when I leave for france."
