You woke up, feeling tired as ever, and the first thing you did in the morning was to check your wrist.
Yup, 26 April was still in bold, written on your wrist.
None of that was a dream but life still goes on, you brushed your teeth groggily and thought about what you should wear for the day.
Since you overslept a little, no time for you to eat anything fancy. A slice of toast in
your mouth should do as you run to work in painfully high heels.˚・゚✧*・゚*˚・゚✧*・゚˚・゚✧*・゚*˚・゚✧*・゚
You reached in time, with your toes painfully sore and cramped. Sitting on the chair of your desk, you checked what was the first thing on your agenda.
Oh great, it was to meet Artem and discuss with him about the Jasmine Kender case. But this would also be a good opportunity to tell him about the date on your wrist.
As you strutted my way to his office you could hear some chattering behind his door. Curiousity got the better of you, so cheekily you decided to listen in on Artem's conversation.
"Artem, you're 29 and you still don't have a soulmate? That's a record!"
That seemed to be... Celestine's voice? What was she doing in Artem's office?
"Even if I did have one, I wouldn't be too interested. I'd just be distracted from work and my partner may cause unnecessary distress."
Artem's words seemed harsh but it was true. As a lawyer he would spend many hours on his job, he's also really well known and he's usually hired by rich businessmen.
How would he ever have time to spend on another person?
You started to feel more and more crushed by every word that left his mouth. He's right, how could you think that you'd have a chance?
Celestine sighed, "not even the pretty girl you've been working with lately? You two seem pretty close, or I could be a good choice."
Artem could only scoff at her words, "she isn't anyone I'm too interested in and you're..."
As you heard those words, tears started to well in your eyes as negative thoughts started to spiral in your head. Anxiety struck you, entangling you as if you were a prey on a spider's web.
The uncontinued sentence was what killed you the most, was he really considering Celestine?
Everything you anticipated to tell him was blown out of the window like that.
Tears streamed down your cheeks, you just got rejected without even getting told in the face. This honestly felt like more painful option.
You hyperventilated, you can't breathe. How could the Goddess of Fate just stab you in the back like that?
Why were you even crying this hard for a man that didn't love you back?
As you wiped your tears from your cheeks, you just sucked it in and accepted everything you just heard.
You're an adult, this is what's expected of you.
Celestine just walked out of the room, seeing you from behind she called out, "oh Y/n! Visiting Artem?"
You sniffled out softly, "yeah I am, we're discussing about a case that was recently brought to our attention."
Celestine smiled as she pat you on the back, "I understand. Have a good day Y/n!" As always, she was comforting and sweet, even if she was the boss.
"I will and you too!" Internally, you said otherwise.

You knocked on the door, Artem invited you in so you opened it and entered.
As you two discussed about the case, Celestine came back in to bring more information.
Celestine brought up a joke as she nudged Artem on the shoulder, making him blush slightly. You could only watch in jealousy as my heart clenched with bitterness. You wished to be her in this position.
Celestine left not long after and Artem awkwardly cleared his throat.
"Has something been bothering you as of late?"
Funny he asked that, you scoffed sarcastically and side-eyed him. "And why would that be of your buisness Mr Wing?"
He looked rather shocked at the fact you called him "Mr Wing", you've been calling him Artem so why the sudden change?
He glanced over at you, apologising as he continued, "because you're my partner and it's important for us to be honest with each other."
All you could do was laugh bitterly, "oh yeah?" You wanted to continue, telling him about my mark and what you heard behind the closed doors but you decided to hold yourself back.
"You didn't happen to hear anything that Celestine and I were talking about, right?"
The silence proved it all to him. He knew there and then that he threw all his chances out of the window.
"So what!?! Why does that matter to you now?" You were crying uncontrollably as you bit my lip with hatred and anger.
You were infuriated at the whole ordeal. You never asked for this to happen. "Why", was all you could ask yourself.
Artem held me close, pressing my head against his shoulder, "I should've never said those things, I'm sorry Y/n. I lied to Celestine."
He pulled your head back to show you the marking on his wrist. It was your birthday.
You looked at him in shock. He met your eyes with ones that were filled with love and sorrow.
"Wait.. but what did you say after "and you're"?" You quirked an eyebrow, feeling a little confused.
He blushed and whispered, "I said she's too old for me."
The two of you giggled together, weakening the tight tension.
"I'm so, so sorry, please forgive me Y/n, I don't know how I could ever make it up to you." He cupped my cheek as he leaned his forehead against mine.
"A date would fix all of this, " you said inbetween sniffles.
He laughed and accepted the invitation while Celestine fangirled as all of this unfolded.
"Guess I'm stuck with you for the long-haul huh?" He chuckles dreamily and you replied with,
"you best believe it sweetie."
