Watching me

ANYONE COULD TELL KARMA DUBOIS WAS IN LOVE. From the way that she dozed off during classes and stared off into the distance, to the way she'd hum love songs wherever she walked. The girl didn't care that anyone knew, what she cared about more was making sure that her heart would be protected.

Not to mention, she had been wanting to do everything possible to keep Enzo happy as of late.

"I don't want to set the world on fire, honey." The girl sang, her small purse hanging on her arm as she made her way home. "I love you too much. I just want to start a great big flame, down in your heart."

The girls senses were heightened lately, so that meant hearing the footsteps of a person walking behind you. When she turned around, there was a few people scattered here and there, which was normal, Whittemore was a college campus. The girl simply shrugged any negative thoughts away before turning her head and walking again.

"You see, way down inside my, darlin'. I have only one desire, and that desire is you." The woman continued to sing, which was usual for her as she walked home to her apartment on campus. "and I know, nobody else ain't gonna do."

Once again there was a rustling of leaves but this time, nobody was behind the girl. Sure, she was a vampire now but the thought of being attacked scared her, she was still just a normal girl. So, upon seeing nobody was there, she sped home, needing to feel her fiancés arms around her.

"Enzo? Are you home?" Karma called out, hearing her own heart pound against her chest as she unlocked the door, running in before shutting it behind her.

"Of course I am, love. What is it?" The St. John man was smiling but, upon seeing the fear in the woman's eyes, his face dropped. "Who do I need to kill—"

"Nobody." The DuBois girl responded, holding a hand against her chest. "What I mean is, I didn't see who was following me but, I know there was someone."

Enzo looked around his home, contemplating whether or not he should confess what had been happening since they moved to the college. He never wanted to worry the girl he loved but, it seemed that things were getting more and more serious as time went along. Maybe it was time to tell her.

"I think someone has been watching us." The man walked to the living room, opening up a drawer that was right next to his sitting chair. "I have been trying to hide these, thinking it would help us but, it looks like things are getting dangerous for you and I."

He took the small letters out, throwing a stack on the table.

"What are these, honey?" Karma furrowed her brows in confusion as she knelt down, leaning her arms on the coffee table in the middle of the room.

"See for yourself." Enzo looked a mix of angry, sad, and scared as he bit on the finger nail of his thumb, pacing back and forth impatiently, waiting for the girl he loved to see what he had been hiding.

The DuBois woman ran a hand across the sealing that kept the letter closed. There was a distinctive marking on it that she'd remember forever, maybe even longer than that. The people who sent the very letters in her hand would soon ruin her life after-all.

"You are scaring me." The girl muttered out, her hands shaking slightly as she peeled of the sealing wax, slowly pulling one of the letters out of it's envelope.

"I thought it was a little prank, but it's gone far if someone is following you, love." Enzo frowned as he continued to pace. "I should have told you sooner."

"Don't worry about it." Karma let herself sit on the floor as she inspected the letters, her eyes moving quickly across the page.

We know, vampire, blood, killing, and most importantly, we're after you caught the girls eyes as she read.

"I told you that coming here was not a good idea." Enzo bit his bottom lip, finally throwing himself anxiously onto the couch.

"We needed a fresh start, in a new place." Karma ran a hand over her face. "Neither of us could have expected this to happen but maybe we should leave."

The Dubois girl ran a gentle hand over her face, not caring as she smudged her signature lipstick. She had been enjoying college, specifically this college, just for her life to be uprooted. It was painful to say the least.

"We can't leave, you love it too much." Enzo got up, now becoming angry at whoever was trying to scare them. "I love you too much to let them run you, no, us away."

Karma swore the man made her dead heart beat fast whenever he professed his love for her. Nobody had ever cared the way he did, nobody got her like him. So, if he said jump, she would ask how high.

Yes, she was the one who'd jump off a bridge if he asked.

"So what do we do?" The Dubois woman turned her gaze towards him, her eyes soft as he sat down, lowering himself to her level.

"For all we know, they could be bluffing, maybe it is another one of us, maybe a friend." Enzo cleared his throat lightly, placing his cold hands on the girls face, still somehow making her feel warm. "We will go places together, and if we cannot be with each other, we make sure that someone else is by our side, okay?"

"Okay." Karma smiled as she came to the realization of what that meant, the girl leaning forward and whispering. "Does that mean I get to see you in design class?"

"I'll make the best bloody dress you've ever seen, bet your ass on that, love." The man grinned, planting a soft kiss on the girls forehead. "Are you feeling better?"

"Yes." The woman nodded. "I trust you, and your judgment, if you think we should stay, then we are staying."

"Good." Enzo got up, reaching his hand up for her to take. "We should go to bed, long day ahead of us tomorrow."

"Wait." Karma frowned as she got up, her hand in his, the girl pouting her lips. "Does that mean I have to go to mechanics class?"

"Of course it does, Karma. We are getting married, it's a bargain deal." The St. John man laughed as his fiancé slapped his arms lightly, shaking her head.

"Curse who ever these people are."
