Part Sixteen- Does Dreams Ever Come True

Maithili finished singing her Shiv prarthana. She feels someone's hand over her shoulder and turns back to see an aged woman, may be in her fifties. She asks Maithili, " beta!! I have been observing you from an hour, you have done pradakshinas, then you sang so sweetly. God will always bless a child like you. Oh!!! I forgot to introduce myself. Hello beta, I am Shailaja Sharma. I live in this society. Are you new here?? "
Maithili: Good morning aunty. I am Maithili Chandrashekhar. I am new in this society and live at my relatives place. I am here to pursue my MBA at IIMS Pune.
Shailaja: Oh dear! What a coincidence, my son too studies there. You may be knowing him, he is......
By then Ram reaches the place and calls, "maa......" Shailaja turns to see Ram. Ram stands still as he is shocked to see Maithili with his mom. He thinks, "what am I supposed to do now. How will I introduce her??? What is Maithili doing here, did she tell my mother about me??? about that accident!!! I think it's something
serious." Shailaja goes towards Ram and drags him to where Maithili is standing. She introduces Ram to Maithili as her son.
Maithili: (smiles at her) Aunty now I am really pleased to meet you. Ram always talks about you a lot.
(Shailaja is now confused)
Shailaja: You both know each other already.
Maithili: Yes aunty, Ram is supposed to be my first friend in Pune and now is my best friend.
Shailaja: (to Ram) Ram you really surprised me dear. Why didn't you tell about her earlier?
(This is for the first time Ram tried to hide something from his mother, may be not Maithili's identity as his friend, but his own feelings for Maithili.)
Ram: Maa, as Maithili said we are friends, she is also a member in our friends group.
Shailaja: (smiles) Its ok. Bring your friend to our home sometimes. (now turns to Maithili) Maithili beta come to our home when you have free time.
Maithili: Sure aunty.
Ram: (to his mother) Maa, today is Maithili's birthday, won't you give her your blessings?
Maithili is surprised. She says to herself, " I never told Ram about my birthday, how did he knew?" She touches Shailaja's feet with all love. Shailaja wishes her 'happy birthday' and hugs her. Ram feels happy that finally his mother met Maithili.

Maithili feels sad remembering her mother and calls Shailaja, "maa, I miss you" in a trance thinking about her mother. She realises immediately and breaking her hug says, " sorry aunty, I badly miss my mom on this day". Shailaja wiping the tears in her eyes, tells her, " Maithili, I am like your mom. It's your wish, you can call me anything". Maithili happily hugs her and says, "thank you maa".
Ram feels that, " how great will be that day when this relationship becomes reality of my life". Shailaja tells Ram, " your father will came to pick me. Drop Maithili at her home" .
She leaves the place. Maithili and Ram are left behind in the mandir. They both keep quiet till they are in the mandir premises. Ram finishes his puja after taking Prasad. He first offers it to Maithili. She takes it from his hand. Now they reach the place where Ram's car is parked. Maithili is about to ask something, but before that Ram replies, " I know what you want to ask me. How did I know it's your birthday?? I will tell you". He opens the car door and gives her a gift box which is neatly wrapped and says, " I saw you all dressed up this morning, I thought may be it's your birthday and your brother confirmed it is...."
Maithili: But Ram I really don't like gifts.
Ram: I know but you are going to love this gift and you will never say no to it. Just open and see it. Don't take it as a birthday gift, just think I am giving it as a sign of our friendship.
Maithili nods her head and opens her gift. A wide smile creeps over her face, which tells that she liked it.
Maithili: Ram! This is the best gift ever.
She kisses the basketball in her hand. Yes!!!Ram gave her a basketball as her birthday gift. She places the ball in front seat.
Ram: Maithili did you really like the gift?
Maithili: (smiles and hugs Ram) Yes Ram, I loved your gift. Thank you for making my birthday so special.
Ram gently hugs back Maithili. He thinks, "that day will be the most happiest day in my life when I can share my feelings with you that I..... I love you Maithili". In a moment all the memories move in front of Ram's eyes; their first meet, hospital, friends forever moment, their trip, everything. Ram feels complete on embracing Maithili. She too felt safe and secure in his arms and thanks God for sending Ram into her life as her best friend.

Slowly coming into senses they break their hug casually and drive back home. Ram drops her at home. Maithili hurriedly gets down from the car and says, " Ram it's already 9:30. We are late to college", and hurriedly walks towards the main gate. Ram gets down from the car and says loudly, " Maithili! Let me remind you, it's Sunday and we have no college today". Maithili smiles and feels relieved. Ram tells her, " be ready for the surprise. I will inform you later." She says, " ok Ram. Byee", and goes inside.
Ram texts everyone that it's Maithili's birthday and asks them to gather at a place.
