"Do you smell that?"
"Of course I do you nitwit. The whole place reeks of the smell of death. It's the stupid city life."
"Not the smell of death. The smell of fear, arousal, Booz, and of blood. Surly you must be able to smell that. It is... No pun intended, intoxicating."
"Now I do. Seems like a girls about to get some unwanted action. What are we going to do about it?"
"Come on now my dear, sweet cousin, we certainly can't miss out on a little fun now can we? Nope. Follow me."
Girls POV.
The dark streets always seem more... Dark when you have to walk home alone. The wind seems just a bit colder, every noise more menacing. All those factors combined resulted in a hyper sensitive high alert atmosphere around Kendra as she walked home from her work. Of course her friend would leave without her, probably off to hook up with the closest guy....
Crunch.
Whipping around to look behind her Kendra stared intently into the darkness. There was Nothing there. Turning around she continued to walk, listening and checking over her shoulders for whatever had made the noise.
The sound of glass breaking came again, this time as if someone had thrown a bottle at a wall. It was closer. Fear speeding up her heart Kendra continued on at a faster pace now, assuming that someone was behind her in the gloomy ally way, even though she couldn't see anyone.
When footfalls started behind her, a fast thumping of rubber on cracked pavement, Kendra burst into a full out sprint. The fear of something chasing her caused her brain to fly out the window and run. Despite all her instincts telling her not to look back, a deep instinctual fear of the unknown caused her to look behind her. She knew it was a bad idea, but her mind was not in control. Twisting her ankle on a raised peace of pavement, she fell down hard, scraping her palms in the process.
The footsteps approached at a fast pace, slowing down once they realized that she had fallen down. Trying to get up, Kendra tripped on the skirt of her dress, causing it to tear. When she got back on her feet she found that it was to late. She had been surrounded by a group of men.
"What do you want!?" She spat at them, instantly on the defensive.
"That's easy. Hand over the purse, the jewelry and whatever other useful or valuable things you have." One of the men replied smoothly.
She handed it all over. It wasn't as if she had much of a choice. "I've done what you asked, now let me go!" She cried desperately.
The men chuckled. It was a horrible sound, and in that moment Kendra knew she wasn't going anywhere. That's when true panic set in, and she began to hyperventilate, her brain boosting into overdrive.
"Did you? I remember saying all valuable items. And I still see two very valuable items on you. Well actually, I see one, and the other is something that isn't meant to be seen." The man grinned at her then, light somehow flashing off his teeth.
The faces were shroud in shadows, strange highlights flickering off of them. It gave the men a freaky other-worldly look. The man who had done all the talking stepped towards her, and she stepped back. He took another step and she stepped back again. He ended up backing her into another man in the circle. This man grabbed her arms, preventing her from running away from him. His hold was going to cause bruises and had already began to cut off circulation to her arms.
"Please no." She cried "no no noooo..." The man caressed her cheek, and it felt vile. Tears began to trickle down her cheeks and a sob retched it way from her throat.
"Don't cry... It's going to be fun." The man in front of her told her, wiping the tears from her cheeks only so more could take their place. Another sob came from her throat, unbidden.
"Tut tut." Came a voice from behind the man holding Kendra. Startled, he looked away from her.
"Didn't you ever learn that a lady is to be respected?" Another voice- or was it the same one?- asked from the other side of the circle. The man spun around, glaring at his companions as if they were somehow to blame for the voices.
"Apparently not my dear cousin." Sighed the first dramatically.
"Well that's a pity. We'll just have to teach him they lesson ourselves now won't we?" The other one replied, but from above this time. The man who was apparently the leader looked up in confusion. There was no way that they could have gotten up there.
Out of nowhere a man appeared right beside the leader. Kendra jumped, and so did the man holding her.
"Boo!" He cried dramatically right beside his ear, before disappearing.
The other voice unexpectedly hissed right beside Kendra; "now, let the pretty lady go." The man who had been holding her instantly released her, and blood began to flow again to her arms.
She stumbled away from the man who had been holding her, only to be caught in a different grip.
"Mmmmm." Moaned the man holding her.
"Don't you smell simply delightful!" The other one complemented her.
"Now now... I do believe that I get this one?" The man holding her sassed the other one. Kendra didn't have the energy to put up with the stress, and despite her best efforts not to, her body betrayed her and turned her knees to jello, her mind to fog, and her vision dark.
