amane -

Amane didn't have a chance to do anything else as he stepped out of the bathroom, because at that exact moment the front door opened.

Knee-length white dress, slightly curled hair, and big, beautiful pink eyes. His thoughts weren't words, but a jumble of ideas: pretty, soft, mine, mine, mine. Then her gaze met his.

Her mouth opened in a tiny 'o' and she made her way over to him. He couldn't speak, couldn't form a coherent thought, all he could do was reach out and take a lock of her hair between his fingers. Yashiro turned bright red and Amane smiled, a little smugly. Every time he made her blush, it gave him a spark of satisfaction, knowing he could do that to her.

"Hey, Amane." Yashiro smiled, and it melted his heart.

"Hi, Yashiro. Fancy seeing you here."

"Seeing me here? Aren't you getting this a little mixed up? You're the one who doesn't go to parties!"

Amane pouted. "So you're saying you don't want me here?" He faked wiping away a tear, then started to walk away. "Goodbye, Yashiro. I'm leaving."

Yashiro glared. "Amane!"

He laughed and returned to her. "Miss me already? Didn't know you could be so clingy~"

She playfully slapped his arm. "Why don't you find a spot to sit somewhere? I'm going to go find Kou, I'll be right back."

"Don't be too long, mi'lady!"

nene -

When Nene opened the door, the first thing she saw was Amane. He looked stunning. He was actually dressed somewhat nicely, compared to the comfy-casual style he normally goes for. It look like he'd tried to tame his wild hair but failed. To Nene however, it just made her heart pound more. And when he touched her hair like that...

She cursed her thoughts for drifting there because her face began to burn again.

"Nene!"

Nene turned around to find the face of Kou, waving at her. "Kou!"

She hugged him. "The party looks great! I didn't think you had such planning prowess."

"Oh, I don't," Kou laughed. "This was all Mitsuba and Teru."

"Speaking of, where is Mitsuba? Strange not to see him fawning all over you~"

Kou blushed madly. "He's upstairs. Said he felt a little sick so I let him lie down in my room."

Poor Mitsuba. "Let him know I hope he feels better soon! It'd be a shame if he had to miss his own masterpiece."

"Oh, I'm sure he'll come down whether he feels better or not. Probably just to make me mad."

Nene picked up two glasses of punch. "Nice seeing you Kou! I'm going to go back to Amane."

Kou smiled knowingly. "So you've found him already? Surprised he isn't hiding out in the bathroom still."

"Kou!"

"Alright, alright, I'll let you go now. Have fun!"

Nene grinned and started back towards the couch. On her way there, she saw Akane and Aoi practically standing on top of each other, both smiling, both a little pink in the cheeks. Her heart warmed to see them finally together.

When she got back to their spot, Amane immediately locked eyes with her. He looked a little panicked.

"Amane? Is everything okay..?"

"Yeah, yeah just um," His eyes flickered rapidly from her face to his hands to the photos on the wall to the lamp in the corner. "Can we maybe go outside?"

Yashiro frowned. "Of course, but why?"

Amane didn't respond, just grabbed his drink from her right hand, and slipped his left one inside it instead. As his hand slipped in hers she saw him physically relax a little. Then he lead her out to the back porch.

Outside it was dark and quiet, save for the wind and the chirping of crickets—a stark contrast to the bustling, crowded feel of the party. She could hear muffled music coming from behind them.

The two of them sat in silence for a while, hand in hand, neither of their drinks any emptier than they had been when they were first poured.

Amane cleared his throat, "I-I'm sorry. If I scared you or something. I just couldn't take it anymore in there. Too many people."

"No, Amane, it's fine." She squeezed his hand. "I get it."

Another silence ensued, but a comfortable one nonetheless. Nene never wanted to leave this moment; his hand in hers, alone beneath the sky, no need to speak because the other's company was more than enough.

"I can't help but wonder though, Amane," Nene began. "Why did you come to the party in the first place? I've never known you to be comfortable in a crowd, much less a party."

Amane seemed to go back into panic mode. He removed his hand from hers and began to twist his fingers around each other nervously.

"Amane..?"

amane -

This is it, he thought. This is when I have to confess.

But the words weren't coming. This was his moment, but it came too quickly. He wasn't ready, wasn't sure when he would be.

"Tsukasa convinced me to," He finally said. "He wanted me to go to at least one high school party before it all ended."

"Oh," Yashiro said. "That was kind of him."

Amane laughed . "I guess it was. I don't think it's going to turn out the way he planned though."

"What did he have in mind?"

Yashiro met his eyes and he once again found himself lost in her gaze. How exactly did he think he could confess to her, when she looked as beautiful as this?

Amane redirected the conversation. "Tonight, I heard there'd be fireworks."

"Oh?"

"Yeah. Big, bright, colorful ones. I've always found it easier to see the stars after a fireworks display."

"Well," Yashiro started, retaking his hand in hers. "How about we watch them together? And afterwards we can go see the stars."

Now it was Amane's turn to blush. "Y-You don't have to. I'm sure Aoi's waiting for you, and Kou—"

Yashiro laughed. "Aoi and Kou are a little occupied at the moment. I'm sure they won't mind."
