The Tournament was a series of tasks, displays of talents / skills / knowledge and much more. It spanned from the day of Autumn to Spring Solstice. The contestants were the heirs to their throne’s or the most powerful families. The Empress, Chaerin, or known as Queen CL was a sweet Queen who offered empathy to her court and the Kings and Queens around her, she’s known for her simple lifestyle and her desire to have the tournament commence. She wants to choose the Royalty who will take over the throne. After her husband died, The Emperor, she wanted to see the worthy Kings and Queens. One of which is me.

15 years before the tournament

“Papa!” I squealed, running full speed at my dad. He chuckled and pulled me into his arms. “There’s my little night owl, I should have known you’d still be awake,” He said, smoothing my hair from my face. “I was getting some sweet rolls from the kitchen,” I explained. “Ah, but are you supposed to have any?” He asked. “Nope,” I grinned, popping the p. He laughed again and handed me to my mother who still had her traveling cloak on. She smiled fondly and sat me on her hip as my nanny came running in her nightgown. “Miss [Last Name]! You should not be out of bed!” She shrieked in distress. “I’m so sorry your majesty, she’s been difficult to keep a hold on,” The nanny said sheepishly. “Of course my daughter would be a handful! She’s my daughter!” My dad bellowed, laughing hysterically. I gave my dad a faithful smile. “Let’s get you back to bed, little dragonfly,” My mother soothed. I nodded, letting her rub a hand over my silk nightgown. “Go to bed Menerva, I can handle her,” My mother told the nanny.

She bowed dutifully and made her way back to her bed. My dad kissed my mom on the forehead and let my mom carry me off to my room. Down the marble and stone halls, up the waterfall staircases, spiral staircases, and across the red carpets. By the time my mother had finally set me on my bed, I was still thoroughly awake. “Will you tell me a story?” I asked her. She sat on the end of my bed. “Perhaps, do you want to hear the tale of the Bard & The Frog?” She asked. “No! That’s for little kids,” I huffed, blowing a raspberry to show how much of a kid I was not. She laughed. “Well, do you want to hear about how our kingdom saved the world?” She asked. “Spine? Save the world? Yes, please tell!” I gaped at her. “Well, many years ago during the great war. All the kingdoms were losing against the invaders of [Rebelling Kingdom], and they reached out to Spine, who could only do one thing. We took our most powerful Dragons and Dragon Trainers and sent them to battle with flaming bows and arrows. I hear it was the sight to see, just when they thought they were done for, when the sun would never shine again for the soldiers. The dragons came over the mountains, breathing frost and fire and crackling the sky with lightning and thunder. They swooped down on the defenseless invaders and killed them all off while the other Kingdoms retreated, Spine defeated their army and they chose to give up,” She told me.

I was half asleep when she finished her little paragraph. She just laughed quietly at my state, and pressed a kiss to my forehead. “Sleep tight little dragonfly,” She said, tucking in my sides. I smiled a little, but I was too far gone to really do much else. My mind floating away at the thought of the powerful dragons flying down from the sky and winning the battle.

Tournament Arrival Day

The biggest castle in all the lands, the most amount of private land in all the kingdoms. The Emperor and Empress’s home. It was nearly sixty thousand square acres, with ten story towers. The inside was a mystery of things to find. With it being nearly four hundred years old all the rooms had once been occupied, but over the generations they went to waste. So now it was just a maze of dungeons, staircases, rooms, and pools of water. Parts of the castle were pristine while others were crumbling and serving a perfect place for plants and fungi to grow. Two streams of water gently cascaded down the sides of the castle front, gently trickling into the village moats below. It served running water to clean the streets below. A luscious maze of plants and well trimmed bushes were planted around the cobblestone paths. The castle’s outside really gave way to the patchy insides. Different themes, colors, designs, and moreover a really unsymmetrical place.
